Thank you for joining us online for "May Contain Lies" with special thanks to Prof. Alex Edmans! IYCMI: here are two ways to help us separate fact from fiction 👇 1️⃣ Beware of our biases: --Sometimes we forget what we should know (e.g., correlation is *not* causation) and accept evidence uncritically if it confirms what we would like to be true --On the flipside, we also are biased to reject "inconvenient truths" that contradict our world views 2️⃣ Check everything (context matters) Turn the attention to ourselves, and be more discerning about how we interpret information. Try imagining the opposite being true to activate our discernment. 📚https://lnkd.in/gi8373ZZ 🙏 Thank you Prof. Kristen Duke for moderating!

How can organizations narrow the gender promotion gap using choice architecture? GATE PhD Research Fellow alum Joyce He discusses her research (co-authored by Sonia Kang and Nicola Lacetera) on whether changing promotion rules from a system where people have to actively apply (opt in) to one where everyone is automatically considered unless they say otherwise (opt out), reduces any differences between men and women in terms of who gets promoted. *Spoiler alert* 👉 women respond to contextual factors and can be just as likely to compete as men 💬 Read Prof. He's Q&A interview in the latest BI-Org Special Issue of the Rotman Magazine (page 78): https://lnkd.in/gMm7_FM7 📗 Learn more about the study details: https://lnkd.in/g83nmA48 University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management BEAR - Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman #GenderPromotionGap #ChoiceArchitecture

After many years of serving as the director of BEAR - Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman, I'm now down to my last week in the role. At the end of this week, I'll pass on the baton to the amazing Tanjim Hossain to direct BEAR's next chapter! I'll still be around at University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management, teaching and doing research. It's been a fabulous journey with many highlights (the BE101x course on edX, several compiled books, conferences like BIG, B.A.D, SOBDR, very many webinars and book events, the BI-Org partnership, Ph.D. work, a lot of research and work with partners) but the biggest highlight is the long list of amazing people I got to know along the way! You know who you are! Thanks for all the support over the years to me and BEAR, and please continue to provide that to Tanjim Hossain and his team!
