Why is September tagged Basic Education and Literacy Month in Rotary?
This is because Education and literacy are integral to Rotary’s mission to create lasting change in communities around the world. As part of the our commitment to community service and global development. This month as always, we are emphasizing the importance of Education as one of the areas of focus in Rotary. The organization highlights their importance in fostering sustainable development, promoting peace, and improving the quality of life for individuals and communities alike.
Through Basic education and literacy Rotary empower individuals, especially children, to break the cycle of poverty. By providing access to education, Rotary helps communities develop skills necessary for personal and economic growth. Rotary International supports various global initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education. This includes partnerships with organizations like UNESCO and local governments to implement educational programs in underserved areas.
By engaging in literacy programs that focus on teaching reading and writing, which are essential for personal and professional development. Rotary’s focus on education helps to build stronger communities by creating informed citizens who can participate actively in civic life and contribute to local economies. These programs can be tailored to different age groups, including adults who may have missed educational opportunities.
Rotary acknowledges that Education is not only crucial for community development, the organization nurtures the next generation of leaders by fostering educational opportunities and programs which often include leadership training and mentorship, preparing young people to take on roles that will drive positive change in their communities.

As Study Stars prepares to protect youth residents from the summer slide, will you please make your gift by April 15th, to help make an impact? bit.ly/488LJHu
As the season transitions, we're reminded of the beauty of growth and opportunity. For youth development, ensuring they have access to educational opportunities, tools and resources is key in helping to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
Your support can be the key to unlocking a brighter future for these children. A gift of $144 can cover the cost of one student for an entire month in our Study Stars program. It's not just about academic assistance; it's about giving low-income families the peace of mind that their child will be supported in a nurturing environment where they can thrive and grow.
Let's come together and sow the seeds of knowledge and opportunity this spring. Please consider making a gift before April 15th, and help us empower young minds to thrive! bit.ly/488LJHu
Can you believe it’s already back-to-school season? As many of us prepare our kids for school, let’s remember there are still hundreds of children worldwide who don’t have the opportunity to get an education.
Over the next 22 days, The Fellowship is partnering with Compassion International to sponsor 750 children in August. Because it won’t only change those children’s lives, it’ll change our lives, too.
We believe that captivating cultures are generous cultures. Imagine the ripple effect our generosity could inspire in the stories of everyone our organization touches.
Here’s how you can get involved:
🤝 Support a child
As an individual leader, personally sponsor a child this August.
📝 Support as an organization
As an organization, dedicate some budget to sponsor several kids, assigning departments within your organization to write letters all year. Or, forward this email along to your whole organization with a note of encouragement.
The best way to create a culture of generosity is to go first. Help us make a difference in children's lives today.

Imagine filling up the largest stadiums in the world, like Soccer City in Johannesburg, 70 times over.
That’s how many young children in South Africa are at a crucial brain developmental stage and need quality early education. Yet only 11% will start school with adequate learning foundations.

What if I told you that a simple task like washing dishes could be a gateway to a child’s confidence and independence?
This video is from one of our Kraaifontein centres and at first glance, you might see just a little girl washing dishes. But there's so much more to this scene—a child, her name is Mihle, is learning, growing, and becoming an integral part of her community.
It’s not a chore. Mihle’s learning to be capable, independent, and valued. This resonates deeply with a Harvard study (https://lnkd.in/dbJdt6Y4) that underscores the importance of children feeling needed and functional to thrive.
You can see her confidence grow with every dish she washes. Mihle is fully engaged, and the pride in her task is palpable. Her educator, who’s filming, is equally proud, creating an environment where she can flourish. The educator’s support and the Mihle’s joy in performing a meaningful activity make this moment truly special.
When children are given opportunities to participate meaningfully, they develop a sense of competence and self-worth. They learn that their contributions matter, which is foundational to their growth and success in life.
At the Indaba Foundation, we strive to create these moments of empowerment every day. Our mission is to ensure that children feel valued and respected, enabling them to grow into confident, capable individuals.
Our CoRE curriculum enables women in communities to be stewards of ECD. Learn more about how we are helping shape the children of tomorrow at https://lnkd.in/eQn_h-R
(Permission to share this video came from Mihle and her family.)
