The #London2012 project is often accused of #gentrification, but if there was ever place that needed more prosperity it is the area around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. But could it become more prosperous without simply displacing local communities and replacing them with more affluent newcomers? Comparison of #census data from 2011 and 2021 sheds some light on how local populations have changed, though it doesn't track individuals or determine causation. A few findings: •Rapid population growth and turnover - particularly in immediate Park hinterland (and throughout Tower Hamlets), but less so further east; •Sharp rise in qualification levels and home ownership, but also an above-average rise in the lower-qualified and socially-renting population - suggesting that change may be as much about addition, as about wholesale displacement; and •A growing white and mixed-race population, but slower than average growth in black and Asian populations - and less improvement in employment rates for these communities. 🌟 Unlocking the Power of Community Centres for Enhanced Business Success 🌟 Embracing the significance of community and neighbourhood centres can pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous business environment. As highlighted in The Toronto Foundation's 2023 (Toronto Foundation)Toronto Vital Signs Report, these centres are recognized as reliable and important institutions. They play a key role in strengthening social ties and promoting a sense of belonging among individuals of all ages in various neighbourhoods throughout the City of Toronto. Accessibility plays a pivotal role in maintaining confidence levels among Toronto residents. Statistics reveal a significant difference in confidence levels among Toronto residents based on their proximity to community centres or recreational facilities. 💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡 Only 39% of those who live beyond walking distance of such amenities report feeling confident, in contrast to 63% of residents who have these facilities within walking distance. 💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡💡 Recognizing this, local businesses and communities can contribute to bridging gaps in access and promoting equity within communities. Moreover, for communities of colour and low-income neighbourhoods, community centres serve as vital pillars for addressing systemic inequalities. By providing avenues for improved mental health, social engagement, and community involvement, these spaces create opportunities for personal growth and development. Let's harness the potential of community centres to not only enrich lives but also drive meaningful change within our business landscape. Together, we can build a more connected and thriving community for all. 💼 🌆 Embrace the change: Support community centres to pave the way for a more inclusive, prosperous society where everyone thrives.
