Do you believe being #traumainformed should only be left up to clinical professionals, or do you think it is important for non-clinical professionals as well, especially in fields like #criminaljustice and #behavioralhealth? Check out my newest blog post on this topic and share your thoughts. I highlight the Trauma-Competency Framework developed by Katie Kurtz, MSW LISW-S and how it leaves enough space for non-clinical professionals to be at least trauma-aware if not trauma-informed.

In our line of work we are often asked "why does an Inquiry need to be trauma-informed?" Inquiries are almost always looking into traumatic experiences and events. In seeking to understand these, it is imperative that they listen to the people most affected. Inquiries do not want to retraumatise individuals and want to mitigate against any harm that might be caused by engaging with witnesses, victims and survivors. Adopting a trauma-informed approach helps Inquiries to think about how best they can engage those whom they want to hear from, without causing significant further distress. However, it is simply not enough to know the trauma-informed principles, these need to be embedded across the service and implemented by all staff, in all areas and should also consider; *peer support *staff support *ongoing clinical consultation #traumainformed #publicinquiries #bestpractice

Trauma Informed, Executive & Transformation Coaching, I support my clients through existing challenges & obstacles in life and offer a healthy and balanced path forwards. I help you 'Get Your Sexy Back!'
A trauma-informed approach to care acknowledges that health care organizations and care teams need to have a complete picture of a patient’s life situation — past and present — in order to provide effective health care services with a healing orientation. Adopting trauma-informed practices can potentially improve patient engagement, treatment adherence, and health outcomes, as well as provider and staff wellness. In this episode I highlight the meaning, benefits and core principles of trauma informed care on the mat and beyond. Please let me know your questions and feedback in the comments!

Someone recently asked if the Lived Experience Academy uses a trauma-informed lens. It prompted me to write an article about Trauma-informed Growth. Here's an excerpt, but you can read the whole article at the Academy website. "We embrace a trauma-informed lens but note that there is more to life than recovering health. There is more to our story than attaining the clinical goals that comprise suicide prevention and Trauma-informed Care. Thus, our primary interest is Trauma-informed Growth. When the response to trauma shifts to focusing on what comes after recovery, that enters the domain of Post-Traumatic Growth. When we focus on what comes after recovery related to suicide, we enter the domain of Post-Suicidal Growth." https://livedexp.academy #PTG #posttraumaticgrowth #Postsuicidalgrowth #PSG #trauma #traumainformedcare #PTSD

It is imperative in care and recovery that traumatic events be followed and supported through Post Trauma Growth PTG and moreover Post Suicide Growth PSG. Yes, it is a sacred space of moral injury and soul woundedness that merits professional and peer support. I know the value of PTSD, PTG, and PSG. Every voice of lived experience is invaluable/ priceless. #Suicideprevention #peersupport #livedexperience #PTG #PSG #TramaInformed #TBRI

Question for healthcare professionals, have you heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and do you screen for them? Evidence suggests ACES contribute to early death and there are correlations that link to 7 or the top 10 causes of death. Preventable and actionable. I would love to know how you use this assessment in your practice. https://lnkd.in/eS6fRTfU

EMDR therapist | Providing therapeutic tools to prevent burnout in the legal and helping professions | Vicarious & secondary trauma | VR Therapy
'Self care is a therapist, not a bubble bath' Thanks Liana Fricker for reminding me to attend this event hosted by The Happiness Index. This was a mic drop moment, and I 100% agree that therapy is the ultimate self care. This becomes non negotiable when staff are exposed to secondary trauma. My strong opinion is that employers have a responsibility and duty of care to provide trauma focused therapeutic support to their staff if they are exposed to secondary trauma on a regular basis. #vicarioustrauma #secondarytrauma #burnoutprevention #legalprofessionals #caringprofessionals

The prolonged and arduous journey that chronic Lyme patients face can take a heavy emotional toll on healthcare practitioners too. Witnessing immense suffering day after day while pushing to find answers is mentally and emotionally draining. It's easy for burnout to set in if you don't have the right support. This is where the irreplaceable value of a caring mentorship community comes in. More than just sharing clinical knowledge, mentors provide strategies to build emotional resilience. They offer a listening ear and wise counsel on navigating patient care with sustained compassion and empathy without running yourself into the ground. Through their guidance, you learn to protect your own well-being. Battling chronic Lyme can be a lonely road for both patients and doctors. However, having a caring mentor community provides the emotional lifeline everyone needs to persevere. Can you relate to needing this kind of emotional support system? Let's start that conversation in the comments. #ChronicLymeDiseaseAwareness #HealthcareBurnout #EmotionalResilience
