So overwhelmed by your enthusiasm & support for the launch of CLK Europe, it really means a lot to me 🙏 🙏 On to substance now: tomorrow, CLK Europe, Geneva Graduate Institute & AEGIS Europe are co-organizing an event in Geneva on CBAM in Action: Lessons Learned & Industry Perspectives The goal is to shed light on the impact of CBAM after the first 2 reporting cycles, both the impact on importers into the EU & the impact of CBAM on EU industry In Geneva, CBAM is often portrayed as a "green protectionist instrument". The reality on the ground is more complex: EU industry saw one certainty (free allowances) replaced by a big uncertainty (will CBAM be effective at the border?) Free allowances (soon of the past) also counted for both domestic sales in the EU & export sales outside of the EU. CBAM as (and if) it currently works, in contrast, levels the playing field only as against imports. In contrast, EU products sold outside of the EU will soon have to pay the full price of carbon. This means that on export markets, the playing field may not be level and the risk of carbon leakage remains (greener, higher priced EU exports may be displaced by cheaper, less-green products made in third countries) I very much look forward to hearing from Vicente Hurtado Roa, Chantal Line Carpentier, Inès Van Lierde, Adolfo Aiello, Aashish Chandorkar, Ben Rake, Hervé Jouanjean & Yves Melin on these recent developments & challenges for producers & traders both inside and outside of the EU Full program & registration to attend in person or online, here: https://lnkd.in/eKgCzAY3
