As I close out my first full month at Stripe, I can confidently say—Stripe is different. The caliber of people I've met is impressive; expertise and humility are not the exception, but the norm. The founders exemplify the company’s principles daily, combining intellect, drive, and ambition. Stripe’s products not only support businesses around the globe but enable them to innovate and optimize for revenue at an exhilarating clip. The results speak for themselves: millions of companies trust Stripe for their most critical revenue operations. Here's to growing the GDP of the internet 🚀

In 2018, three former Stripe employees set out with a bold vision to revolutionize customer support operations. Now, six years later, the company they started has reached a significant milestone of its own: a team of 100 strong. To mark this achievement, we spoke with some early hires who not only shaped the culture but continue to embody our values to this day. Here are a few themes that emerged across all interviews: 🤝 At Assembled, we believe in the power of empathy and genuine connection. Our cultural value to "act like a support agent" shines through in the kindness and dedication of our team. 🔄 Feedback is a cornerstone of our growth. We embrace the philosophy that "feedback is a gift," fostering an environment where giving and receiving feedback empowers us to innovate and excel. 🌟 No prior experience? No problem! Our team members continually step outside their comfort zones, embracing new roles with enthusiasm and excelling in ways they never imagined. With the news last week of Brex laying off 20% of their staff, it can feel nerve-wracking to be working in the tech sector right now. And they're not alone, Unity, Twitch, and a number of other businesses have made the same move 📉 The thing is, more redundancies are coming, it's going to be a tough year for many... But a tough year doesn't mean the business is doomed. Often that's really all it is, just a single difficult year. When business rebounds, you're forced to rehire for those roles, at a time when the rest of your industry is almost certainly doing the same 😓 Why not take a smarter approach - send employees on secondments to other industries to develop their skills and enrich their careers, and then bring them back when the time is right? Imagine the productivity benefit from cross-pollination! 🥳 Let's learn from the tech layoffs of 2022. This time, there's a better way. #talentsharing #crosspollination #secondments

Stripe's growth story is incredible And Ryan was there whilst it grew 3,000%+ over 5 years 🤯 So I had to ask what his sales team did so well... Here are the 4 things he mentioned: 1 - Hiring 🤝 Stripe needed all-rounders and builders at the start - so hired people with backgrounds in engineering, business, and music 2 - Training 🎓 The sales team needed to sell without engineering support - so the AEs went through a coding boot camp to understand technical questions 3 - Learning 🧠 They would cherry-pick what was working best from each rep - and use it to build the best sales process possible for all AEs 4 - Travel 🧳 Flying out to meet clients would increase their close rate - and give them an edge over their competitors One of my favourite episodes of Sales Leader Stories so far Links to Ep 7 w/ Ryan from Airwallex below 💜

It’s a weird time in tech. There’s no way of sugarcoating it or turning it into a motivational LinkedIn post. Layoffs are heartbreaking for those impacted directly by them (🙋🏻♀️), those left wondering if they’re next, and those who had the taxing job of deciding who to let go. 8.5 years at Lightspeed equates to roughly 101 months. In the Sales world, that’s a lot of targets to hit! It also equates to a lot of celebrations, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of sweat and tears while we made our dream of going public a reality but mostly a whole lot of working with some truly incredible people. When I started as an SDR, we were a small org led by a fearless leader. Shruti Maheshwari gave me the honour of her trust and mentorship - both while she was there and long after she left - to build SDR into what it is today. From an often underrated, sometimes overlooked function to a lead-generating machine receiving the respect it so deserves. But I can’t take sole credit for that. The success of Lightspeed’s SDR function is due to a symphony of cross-functional collaboration (thank you to my marketing, AE, AM, CS, Partnerships, HR, Support, IS, and RevOps counterparts), a team full of individual contributors who always strive to do their best, and my phenomenal leadership team Brett Payette, Yasmina Kharma, Anna Altaeva, Angel Moreno, Megan El Nemnom, Fiorenzo Break, Lutfa Ahmed, Elliot Kim who I watched grow into the fearless, compassionate, and dedicated people-leaders and coaches you are today. I also want to take a moment to thank the people that I had the pleasure of reporting to over the years Shruti Maheshwari, JD St-Martin, Sarah Chmielewski, and Sam Roper. You gave me trust and autonomy, and nurtured my career into what it is today, and made me a fiercely loyal employee. I am proud of the fulfilling career I’ve built at Lightspeed. And while deeply saddened by the layoffs, we are Lightspeeders, I know we will all land on our feet, and I can’t wait to see where my feet take me. And with that I am #opentowork

I often think about how Stripe was founded with just seven lines of code, which the founders personally implemented at customer offices. They could have easily said, “It’s not my job,” but they didn’t. Instead, they cared deeply about the customer experience and made it their job. This story is a powerful reminder that success often comes from going the extra mile, even outside your official role. It’s about taking ownership, being proactive, and focusing on what truly matters—the customer. In any business, that level of commitment makes all the difference. It’s not just about building a product; it’s about ensuring it works seamlessly for its users. By putting the customer first, the Stripe founders set the tone for their company’s success, and it’s a lesson worth remembering in our work.
