Aramark Collegiate Hospitality had the privilege of hosting the annual Swipe Out Hunger board meeting at our HQ in Philadelphia on Sept 17-18! A key highlight of the event was a powerful corporate panel featuring Brian Dougherty from myMicroFridge, Veronica Chappelle-McNair from Ellucian, and our very own DEBORAH Parnigoni from Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. The discussion delved into: ✅ How partnerships with Swipe Out Hunger play a vital role in these efforts ✅ How each corporation supports the fight against food insecurity in higher education ✅ Challenges we face in addressing food insecurity on campuses ✅ Exciting future initiatives to continue supporting students in need Together, we are committed to making a difference and ensuring that no student goes hungry! #FoodInsecurity #CommunityImpact #FuturesBetterServed

Graduate Student | Passionate DEIJ Educator | Aspiring Student Affairs Programmer | TedxUniversity of Delaware Speaker 2024
In my short time as the Blue Hen Essentials graduate assistant, I have learned one major fact: food insecurity is a huge issue among college students. If you'd like to join my efforts to make a difference in the lives of Blue Hens, I invite you to consider supporting Student Diversity & Inclusion's Fill the Food and Supply Pantry initiative! A Hope Center survey indicated that approximately 1 in 4 UD students experienced food insecurity in the last 30 days, and the Blue Hen Food & Supply Pantry team is working to bring that number down every day - but we need your support! By scanning the QR code on our flier or visiting bit.ly/UDFSPwishlist you can purchase items that will go directly to our pantry and into the shopping bags of Blue Hens experiencing food insecurity. Our goal is for students to access high-quality items, so please purchase the brands that are listed on our wishlist when possible. If you can't purchase items, you can still support us by sharing our flier with your network! Every share and purchase counts! Interested in doing more? I'd love to connect about other ways that we can work together to fight food insecurity on UD's campus. https://hope.temple.edu/ https://lnkd.in/eW-HyY4e

Check out below fantastic👇 article on CanTeam sharing Nick Hughes first hand experience dining with us at Ark Burlington Danes Academy 🤩 Let’s eat & thrive together 🚀
I recently had the opportunity to visit Ark Burlington Danes Academy in west London to see a new 'social canteen' concept in action. Created by Future Foundations, CanTeam aims to transform school canteens into community hubs by providing free, nutritious after-school food for young people and their families and so create a sustainable solution to food insecurity. For context, 8 million adults, representing 14.8% of UK households, experienced food insecurity in January 2024, according to The Food Foundation . Burlington Danes is located in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham between Shepherd’s Bush and Harlesden in an area of relatively high deprivation; around half of students are eligible for free school meals of which 30-40% qualify for the pupil premium. What was so great about the event was the near carnival atmosphere created by the student volunteers and all those in attendance. The food was delicious but just as important was the feeling of a community coming together to break bread and enjoy one another's company. CanTeam has recently received a new funding boost from the Big Change charity and the ambition is to establish more CanTeams than there are branches of McDonald’s (currently numbering more than 1,400) across the UK by 2030. That requires building a coalition of cross-sector partners, including school food caterers as explained in this Footprint Media Group article. A huge thanks to Jonathan Harper FRSA and his team for the invitation and to all those at Burlington Danes for their hospitality. #schoolfood #catering #foodinsecurity #community https://lnkd.in/eqHxXfeq

Broken School Meals: It's Not the Staff, It's the System #SchoolMeals #FoodJustice #Policy I completely understand the anger of parents about this- however, I'd also defend to the last breath the heroes working in our school kitchens every day. The current state of school meals in England mirrors the worrying trend of the domestic energy market a few years ago. A race to the bottom in bidding by a limited number of providers has created an unsustainable system. Rising food, energy, and labour costs expose the fundamental flaw in the business model. The consequence? Schools facing difficulties securing new contracts, and ultimately, the burden falls on the most vulnerable: our children. This is not a reflection on the dedication of underpaid kitchen staff. They are heroes working within a broken system. The answer lies in a proven, successful approach: Universal Free School Meals. Look beyond our borders: London, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, and Rwanda have all implemented this model. The benefits are undeniable: Improved child health and well-being Reduced social inequalities Economies of scale leading to greater cost-effectiveness The true cost of inaction is evident in the concerning images shared by Mr. Ashley. It's time to prioritize our children's well-being. Let's move towards a sustainable and equitable solution: Universal Free School Meals. https://lnkd.in/edMhkBvx

Reflections and take-aways from an interactive session focused on a 3 year learning journey faculty and cohort members took together, with a focus on creating just and equitable community food systems and food policy councils. Bottom line, when you prioritize deep trust and caring relationship, so much falls into place ... "I’ve learned that #relationships drive change. We need each other, but more than that, we need to be known by each other to build the kind of #trust required for this work!" "I learned that people outside of my community #care as deeply about all the things we work on as much as we do. It was a revelation!" "How important it is to participate in creating #community where people feel a sense of #belonging." "Patience and #learning to respond with real #Love." "Good things come from #grace." More reflections on one of the most powerful collective experiences can be found here (spoiler alert: place, history and an ethic of hosting really matter!!!) https://lnkd.in/eQHGt8Jf

LACA - The School Food People will once again host a Parliamentary reception at the House of Commons on 18th April to showcase great school food and highlight the financial challenges the industry is facing. According to a LACA survey, 91% of respondents are experiencing food shortages, with over 60% saying that this has not changed since May 2022. Food prices have risen 30% since May, with some LACA members experiencing 50% price increases. For some children, lunch is the only hot meal they will eat in a day. LACA believes the 2.9% funding increase for UIFSM is ‘inadequate and insufficient’. A predicted average meal price of £2.73 from April 2024 will represent a 20% increase since May 2022, yet funding only provides £2.53 per child across most of England (with Wales being £3.20, London being £3.00 and Scotland £3.33). Schools and parents are having to make up the shortfall to ensure that meals can be provided to all pupils. Read more >> https://lnkd.in/euyZnDdR #SchoolFood
