Recent endeavours in this field have been propelled by governmental policies and mining enterprises acknowledging the importance of ethical practices and sustainability objectives. World's Energy Transition from fossil fuels relies on critical minerals mining. Yet, traditionally the mining is environment unfriendly, however it has a huge potential to be carbon neutral or even negative by eg. Storing concentrated CO2 in the rocks or converting it to algae processing it to SAF or bio-fertilizers. We have seen so many different exciting projects developing over the past few years: from cleaning tailings up to manufacture construction materials like sand and bricks, to the potential #reprocessing of mine wastes for #criticalmetal recovery... But did you know that some mine wastes passively sequester carbon dioxide and with the right tweaks to them, we can maximise the amount of #CO2 being captured? This is what we do at Arca! One solution that may be able to help manage the millions of tons of human waste on the planet which contributes to Climate Change is “Landfill Mining.” By definition landfill mining is “a process for extracting minerals or other natural resources from waste materials.” The great thing is that the sites which have the waste materials that landfill mining machinery would need to excavate already exist…and there are many of them.
