🐱🐶💙 Happy #GlobalRecyclingDay! What could you be recycling to help our animals at Bath Cats & Dogs Home (RSPCA Bath & District Branch)? You may be surprised! • Blankets and towels. These are really useful in the cattery and kennels (as modelled by Parsley looking cosy with his donated blankets here). We can’t take duvets or pillows sorry, they're tricky to wash and get messy if ripped. • Office items. If you run an office or business printer, you can have a collection box from #RecycleForCharity which donates to us for every recycled cartridge. And if you are having an office clear out, take a look at #AGoodThingUK who match businesses with equipment to charities who can claim it. • Pre-loved clothes and accessories. Perhaps you’ve grown out of it, or out of love with it, but you think someone else would wear it? Then either drop it in to one of our five Charity Shops, or add onto eBay as a charity listing. • Pet items. We welcome new and nearly-new pet items. Things that would be useful include dog harnesses, pet beds and blankets, cat scratching posts, toys and coats. Apart from the printer cartridges, all other items can be donated to our Charity Shops or to our rehoming centre at Claverton Down. Barbells for Bullies is based out of the metro Atlanta area where the pit bull population is out of control. Rucking Away May - A Fitness Event for Spay/Neuter Initiatives This co-branded event is powered by Barbells For Bullies and GORUCK. The purpose of this event is to raise money and awareness for spay/neuter initiatives around the country. Every year, 1.2 Million dogs are euthanized in shelters. 1.2 Million. Every Year. That’s roughly the population of Dallas, TX. And over half of the dogs euthanized, are labeled “pit bull type” dogs. While we work to help all dogs, the reason we’re Barbells For Bullies is simple - bully breeds need our help. For every 1 pit bull type dog adopted, 599 perish. One way to stop this vicious cycle, aside from ending BSL and changing perceptions surrounding the “breed” - is to control the population via spay/neuter initiatives. Did you know? In just 6 years, one unaltered dog and their offspring can produce over 60,000 puppies. That’s enough dogs to fill every seat in Dodger Stadium. In six years. One dog… Aside from the various health and behavioral benefits, we can reduce the amount of animals entering shelters by proactively supporting low/no cost spay/neuter programs. All proceeds from this event will go towards various spay neuter initiatives around the US in high risk areas. To date, we spayed/neutered hundreds of dogs. As part of our ongoing support of the Save the Kiwi, PKF New Zealand are helping spread the word on the risks that kiwis face every day. Unfortunately one of our favourite pets, dogs, are the most significant threats to adult kiwi. If we want to keep our national taonga species safe, we need to keep dogs out of areas where kiwi live. One way to keep dogs away from areas where kiwi live is signage. How can you help? 📌 Help us raise $5,000 to produce more 'kiwi live here' signs: https://lnkd.in/gvt5srps Save the Kiwi is raising $5,000 to produce and distribute more ‘kiwi live here’ signs. These signs will be erected in and around areas where kiwi live, to alert dog owners about the presence of kiwi, and prevent their dogs from potentially injuring or killing kiwi. Some signs ask owners to keep their dog on a lead, while others prohibit dogs from entering the area. ‘Kiwi live here’ signs are just one way to help keep kiwi safe. Other ways include keeping dogs on a lead when they're outdoors and under control (either inside or in a kennel) at night to prevent them from roaming. Signs on their own won't save kiwi, but they will raise awareness about the presence of kiwi and the risk dogs pose to them. Many kiwi projects around the country already have these signs, but we need more. We need to make it more obvious to dog owners where kiwi live so they can do the right thing and either not take their dog into that area, or (depending on the restrictions) ensure it is on a lead. #pkfnz #savethekiwi #kiwilivehere Save the Kiwi produces these signs and gives them to kiwi projects around the country. It's not just dogs that need some extra help to cope with the hot weather. Cats need a bit of TLC too, such as: ⛱ Ensure your cat always has access to shade and fresh drinking water to help keep them cool. 🥛 Put ice cubes into your cat's water bowl or make some tasty ice cube treats. 😻 Give your pet damp towels to lie on or an ice pack wrapped in a towel - both will provide welcome relief from the heat. 💺 Groom them regularly - regular grooming in warmer weather can help brush away any dead or excess hair, leaving your cat with a less dense coat - much better for staying cool!
