Alyssa Weninger is a Boston local in the first year of her neuroscience PhD program at Harvard University. She joined us as part of F-Prime’s summer interns and fellows cohort this year, and shared the following insights about her experience. Q: Why did you decide to join F-Prime for the summer, and what did you work on?  A: I wanted to explore a career option in the biotech industry for after I finish my PhD. I did a landscaping of Th2 immunity in the central nervous system, attended many intro calls, helped diligence companies of interest, and presented to the team on certain companies or spaces of interest. Q: What surprised you most about working in VC, and how has our Summer Intern/Fellows Program helped to crystallize your vision for your post-college career? A: I didn’t have many expectations going in, so nothing surprised me necessarily. However, it introduced me to new concepts in the business world and how to approach those problems. I really like this line of work, but I still want to keep an open mind going forward. 

Here is my hot 🔥 student career take that NOBODY is talking about. REU programs. Literally NOBODY talks about them, but they are the foundation that led to me: 1. Getting my VC internship in Chicago 2. Getting my marketing internships at startups 3. My 1st coffee chats with professionals I looked up to 4. Building my 1st ever community (Genz Drawdown) Yesterday, I got my 1st speaking engagement at my alma mater, Penn State. Thanks to Erin Hostetler for reaching out! I talked about how Research Experiences for Undergraduates changed my life and how it set me up for success🏆. Think graduate-level research but in undergraduate (funded by NSF) + free room & board, stipend, scholarship, and a community with 👩🏾🎓students from different universities. Hometown: California School: Princeton University Degree: Computer Science Class: 2024 Why intern at Envisagenics: "I am excited about the opportunity to intern at Envisagenics because it represents a place where I can leverage my computer science skills to make a meaningful contribution to the larger community. I am interested in computational biology, and I also appreciate the more collaborative environment of a smaller organization like Envisagenics." What are some of your interests outside of work: "Outside of work, I spend a lot of time playing basketball and staying active. I also have gotten into cooking more recently, and I like to watch movies and tv shows with my dad." Fun Fact: My favorite movies are La La Land, Burning, and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Back in college, my whole world crashed when my dream internship got cancelled at the last minute. Imagine landing your dream internship or externship, only to have it vanish before it even begins -- because the company didn't have the time or resource to support you any longer. 🕰️💔😢 That happened two decades ago during my undergrad experience at MIT, a pivotal moment that highlighted a glaring issue in our approach to professional development. 🌟 Celebrating My Lead Authorship and Our Quantum Research Paper from a Summer at the QED-C! 📜✨ This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to be a Quantum Research Intern at the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C), managed by Stanford Research Institute (SRI International). During my time there, I explored new ground, shifting my focus from quantum error correction to quantum Hamiltonians. One of the most rewarding outcomes was that our work resulted in a paper where I was honored to be the primary-author. It’s a significant step in my research career, and I’m grateful to have been part of such a meaningful project. I'm excited to share Task 3 of my recent project on Campus Placement Prediction! at VerveBridge 🎓🔍 In this task, I focused on developing predictive models to forecast the likelihood of students securing campus placements based on various factors such as academic performance, skills, and past experiences. Using advanced machine learning techniques, I built and fine-tuned models to predict placement outcomes, providing valuable insights for both students and educational institutions.
