My superpower is… I build trust quickly with my patients.🦸🏾♀️ As healthcare professionals, we often focus on the technical aspects of our roles, ensuring accuracy and precision in every task. Yet, one of the most impactful parts of our work is the connection we create with our patients. Your patients may never really 'know' you, but they can quickly like and trust you based on how you made them feel during their time of need. It's these moments of genuine care and empathy that leave a lasting impression and build the foundation of trust and rapport. I know exactly when I've connected with my patients because they look at me, they check for me to see what I think, what they should do, my input. At that moment, I know I've done my job of connection. And that's what we have to do. I know my patients may not even remember my name, but they will remember there was this nurse who took the time to connect with me, answer my questions, let me vent my concerns. That's what they need most. Each of us as nurses can change the experience a patient has when they walk through that door. One person, one event can change the experience for their whole time that they're there. And because I know that, I make sure if there's no other nurse that has made that connection, they will connect with me. Connect with your patients. They're looking for someone to trust. Someone to hear them, someone to see them, someone to understand. That's what makes nursing fulfilling to me. Here are four key points to remember when fostering patient relationships: * Listen Actively:Give your full attention, show empathy, and validate their concerns. Active listening reassures patients that they are heard and valued. * Communicate Clearly:Use simple, jargon-free language to explain procedures and treatments. Clear communication helps patients feel informed and in control. * Show Compassion:Small gestures of kindness, like a warm smile or a comforting touch, can significantly impact a patient's experience and emotional well-being. * Be Present:Spend quality time with each patient, even if it's just a few extra minutes. Your presence can make them feel more secure and cared for. #Nursesonlinkedin #patientexperiencedisruptor #BuildingTrust #mypatientsmatter

𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 Working as a nurse, I understand the emotions that patients and their families experience when they come to the hospital—uncertainty, fear, and frustration. These feelings are valid, and we, as healthcare providers, are here to support and care for you through these difficult times. However, it's important to address a common issue that affects the quality of care: 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥. This mindset can lead to disrespectful behavior towards those who are dedicated to your well-being. The goal of most healthcare workers is to provide the best care possible. But when patients approach us with hostility or entitlement, it not only undermines our ability to perform our duties effectively but also creates a toxic environment for everyone involved. 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡—just as we strive to treat every patient with compassion, we ask for the same in return. Let's remember that healthcare is a partnership. We are here to help you, and with mutual respect, we can ensure a more positive and healing experience for all. Have you encountered similar challenges in your industry? How do you handle difficult client interactions while maintaining professionalism? Let’s share ideas in the comments and learn from each other’s experiences.

DOCTORS SAVE LIVES A Heartfelt Appeal to Doctors: Prioritize Saving Lives. As medical professionals, doctors have the immense responsibility of saving lives. The oath taken is to protect and care for human life, not to prioritize paperwork or financial gain. Your oath demands compassion, empathy, and selflessness. In every situation, please remember that preserving human life is paramount. You aren't trained to be heartless or emotionless. Life is precious and unpredictable so prioritize recovery over anything else. It is understandable that you might have some rules guiding your doings but imagine if it's one of your relatives that is in such an emergency situation, what would your reaction be? Would you be concerned about them getting registered first before you could start the treatment? Patients are human beings, not experiments or statistics. No one plans to be hospitalized; be understanding and accommodating. Empathy is essential so put yourself in your patients' shoes. After all, everyone will surely account for everything we do in this life. So, fear the Day of Judgment, when every decision will be accounted for. Consider the impact of your actions: 1. How will you face the family of a patient who suffered due to delayed treatment? 2. What will you say to the Almighty on Judgment Day? 3. How do you want to be remembered – as a lifesaver or a bureaucrat? Doctors, you have the power to make a difference, please: 1. Prioritize emergency care over administrative tasks. 2. Show empathy and understanding to patients and families. 3. Advocate for efficient hospital processes. 4. Uphold the sacredness of human life. As doctors, you are guardians of hope and life. Remember your oath, and let compassion guide your decisions. You won't be asked how but why, the reason you didn't come to the rescue of that struggling soul. The reason you failed to prioritize saving their lives but rather focus on their bills. You can really do better! Being in the field does not mean you have the world! You are human too! The value of life surpasses material concerns. Nafeesah Olayemi Olapade

Importance of Communication Skills in Emergency Medicine In the fast-paced environment of an emergency department (ED), effective communication is paramount for ensuring smooth patient flow and efficient workflow. Emergency medicine specialists play a crucial role in coordinating care, providing timely interventions, and ensuring patient safety. Possessing strong communication skills is essential for them to navigate these complex situations effectively. Key communication skills for emergency medicine specialists: Clear and concise communication: The ability to convey information clearly and succinctly is vital in emergency situations. Misunderstandings can have serious consequences, so it's essential to use precise language and avoid jargon. Active listening: Paying close attention to what others are saying is crucial for understanding patients' needs and concerns. Active listening involves maintaining eye contact, nodding, and asking clarifying questions. Empathy: Showing empathy towards patients and their families can help build trust and alleviate anxiety during stressful times. Understanding their perspective and emotions can foster a more compassionate and supportive environment. Effective teamwork: Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, such as nurses, technicians, and specialists, is essential for providing comprehensive care. Clear and open communication among team members ensures a smooth workflow and minimizes errors. Conflict resolution: Disagreements or misunderstandings may arise in the hectic ED environment. Effective communication skills can help resolve conflicts peacefully and maintain a positive working atmosphere. By developing and honing their communication skills, emergency medicine specialists can significantly improve patient outcomes, enhance teamwork, and contribute to a more efficient and effective ED. #emergencymedicine #communication #healthcare #patientcare #teamwork #efficiency #ED #hospital

🌟 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫? 🌟 Being a doctor is more than just a job. It's a lifestyle. It's about waking up every day with a commitment to care for others, to heal, and to make a difference in people's lives. Working in healthcare directly with patients, physicians, administration tasks, vendors, plus juggling a personal life can test our limits. Sometimes it can make people snap, quit the job, silently quit, become disengaged, physically exhausted, and feel emotionally frustrated. That's where mental toughness comes in. I will be presenting a webinar at the Pennsylvania Association of Medical Staff Services on Mental Toughness. It would be wonderful to have you aboard - medical assistants, nurses, PAs, and all you cool folks serving healthcare. I will discuss the quality of being resilient being troubles come, how to practice gentless and kindness while being tough at the same time, qualities of a mentally tough person, how to stretch like elastic and not snap like peanut brittle when problems mount, and much more. Rachael Young, formerly Rachael Nesselrodt, has been a real HV all-star for many years. She has helped us establish procedures, train new hires and get HV's Case management to where it is today. She clearly loves and cares for all her patients and clients and brings a high level of professionalism to her work everyday, a real testament to what we call "The HV Way". You might be wondering, how does HV Handle Case management? We'll tell you! When an employee experiences an injury or illness, they call our 24/7 hotline. An operator answers the call to gather general information, and our nursing staff is promptly notified to follow up. Our nurses then contact the employee to collect detailed information about the incident. Based on the situation, a treatment plan is developed. This may include first aid instructions, scheduling telemedicine appointments with our doctors, or coordinating care with clinics or ERs as needed. We can also order diagnostic tests directly, reducing the need for clinic visits and helping to keep costs and recordable incidents down. If external treatment is required, we can request medical records to ensure proper follow-up care. We continue to monitor and support the employee until they recover. Clients receive detailed reports, giving them all necessary documentation for their records. Additionally, we are available to answer questions about workers' compensation, injuries, or illnesses. For new projects or companies, we vet clinics, hospitals, dentists, eye doctors, and therapeutic massage providers to ensure a clear plan is in place for external care when needed. Our service operates 24/7, including holidays and weekends, providing consistent and comprehensive support. #EmployeeHealth #WorkplaceSafety #InjuryManagement #24HourSupport #Telemedicine #OccupationalHealth #WorkersCompensation #HealthAndSafety #InjuryCare #EmployeeWellbeing #CostSavings #OnTheJobCare #FirstAidSupport #WorkplaceInjuries #RecoverySupport
