Join #USAIDAsia Mission Director Dr. Steve Olive and regional experts for a discussion on the #AseanPowerGrid at the Asia Clean Energy Forum on June 6, 2024. The session will focus on “ASEAN Power Grid (APG): Powering ASEAN’s Green Future” and foster dialogue, collaboration, and strategic partnerships among stakeholders. The APG plays a crucial role in ASEAN's transition towards clean, secure, and sustainable energy. To achieve this goal, ASEAN needs $300 billion for national grid development and $16 billion for 18 interconnection projects by 2040. However, there are numerous investment challenges that persist due to regulatory, political, and economic barriers. Urgent action is needed from all sectors, including government agencies, multilateral institutions, private sectors, and civil society organizations to unlock the full potential of the APG in driving ASEAN's Green Future. Join us to explore how partnerships can address these challenges. For more details: https://bit.ly/3WOySrR Register Today: https://bit.ly/3VMltAa

📌 ACE to Lead Feasibility Study on Indonesia-Malaysia Cross-border Interconnections The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is thrilled that a U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) grant-financed feasibility study of Indonesia-Malaysia cross-border interconnections has reached final approval. The Grant Agreement with PT PLN (Persero) is signed. The study team, led by the ASEAN Centre for Energy and supported by Delphos and Stantec, has been established with the assistance of USAID Southeast Asia's Smart Power Program, which will start in early 2024. The study will assess the feasibility of Sumatra-Peninsular Malaysia and Kalimantan-Sabah interconnections, as recommended by the #ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study (AIMS III). The initiative symbolises a step forward in materialising the vision of a robust, sustainable ASEAN Power Grid, promising a more interconnected future. 🔗 Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/gPKwCJKr #ASEANPowerGrid #FeasibilityStudy #IndonesiaMalaysiaInterconnection

Empowering Lives Through Storytelling | Corporate Leader in Governance | Chairperson at Methodist Welfare Services | Assistant Chief Executive at Energy Market Authority
Moving from a specific policy win, to bilateral win-wins, and eventually to multilateral wins that bring synergistic benefits to the system is what's needed as countries embark on their decarbonisation programmes, and need to work with one another for clean energy trading. That was my key framework at the panel session of the Asia Clean Energy Forum in Manila, organized by the Asian Development Bank. I was joined by esteemed fellows on the panel, skillfully moderated by Keiju Mitsuhashi, Director, Southeast Asia and the Pacific team, Energy Sector Office, Sector Groups, ADB - Victor Jona, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Mines, Kingdom of Cambodia, and Energy ETTF Chairperson of 2024 - Titiporn Sangpetch, Chief, Power System Connection and Cooperation Planning Department, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand - Steve Olive, Mission Director of USAID's Regional Development Mission for Asia - Jayme Grace Dela Cruz, Vice President, International Business Development, ACEN I emphasized that our success in transitioning to clean energy hinges on our ability to create mutually beneficial projects that balance the needs of all stakeholders. A good example is Singapore's plan to import clean energy from around the region and what Energy Market Authority (EMA) was doing to support that, which could catalyze a regional clean energy market. However, it's crucial that we ensure these projects benefit all countries involved. The panel concluded that the ASEAN Power Grid is a key initiative to enable the drive towards a low carbon economy for all ten member states. As Dr. Titiporn aptly put it, we strive for "one community, one grid, one joy". Lastly, I'd like to express my gratitude to the Asian Development Bank for organizing an outstanding conference, and congratulate them on bringing together diverse stakeholders to accelerate the clean energy transition in Asia. Let's move beyond single policy wins and strive for multilateral successes that drive sustainable growth and development for all. #cleanenergy #sustainability #multilateralsuccess #aseanpowergrid Shout out to Ren Yi Ooi for the outstanding support!
