There’s something to be said about your first jobs. To get to where I am today, I worked as a: 1) Car Wash Attendant 🚗 2) Pizza Delivery Driver 🍕 3) Wealth Management Intern 💰 4) Accounting Assistant 💻 5) Real Estate Revenue Management Intern 🏢 Each and every one of these taught me things I still use today. 1) Hard work pays off - Usually with the tip payout at the end of each day 2) How to deal with tons of different personality types -  3) Here’s where I figured out what I really wanted to do 4) How to build out systems/processes to keep my business organized 5) Where I learned that I had to feel good about what I was doing for clients and my work to be fulfilled Even though they weren’t necessarily always fun in the moment. It’s always a great reminder to look back and see how they’ve shaped us!

My interns are better than yours 🥹 We hear a lot that positioning your company as a strong employer on the market became more than key. Big name, big brand, big reputation. For a scale up, it is probably even harder to face that challenge, while we are constantly growing and testing new things in terms of DNA, packaging, career path... Knowing that in 2008, in France, 62% of employees preferred to earn more money and have less free time. Today, 61% of them prefer to earn less money, but have more free time (source: Welcome to the Jungle). How do I show here or via a job description to the new generation that we are conscious of today's challenges, inclusive, reinventing ourselves, etc.? I wish I could take pictures and make movies every day like our interns at We Invest Real Estate have done. Spontaneous, appealing, and such a tribute to us as an employer. We are still looking for the 5th one to complete our intern cast (HR & admin intern). Preferably as fun as Chandler and as organized as Monica ! We retooled our internships in 2020 with one overarching objective: to advance the individual's skill set. Companies often turn internships into glorified admin roles. We do the opposite, putting internships on the front lines to experience what it's truly like to work in a communications consultancy. All HRs in my connection; Thinking about hiring entry-level or 1-year experienced talent for less than Rs. 35,000/ $150 per month? Consider offering remote-based positions – it's a win-win. They get to earn while working from anywhere. And let's talk about unpaid internships now – they should be a thing of the past. No one wants to deal with office politics on their dime. It's time to stop glamorising workplace exploitation – minimize it, if not end it altogether.

Here's the BEST thing I did to get my real estate finance internship as a sophomore...and it's not just "read more" or "network more" I loaded up all of my classes to be all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Which let me work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As I interviewed with companies looking to hire summer interns, I let them know that I can start working for them 3 days a week NOW (2nd semester). This would mean they (the employer) would get a much higher return on their time because I am a much more experienced intern by the summer...note that this only works at smaller companies that don't have large rotations. So, I got the internship (over some impressive candidates) for 3 days a week in February 2020. Then, the pandemic hit, and basically started working full-time immediately. But if I didn't load up my classes on 2 days, work for 3 days starting that semester, the pandemic would've wiped the opportunities I've been lucky to have. So, yes, please read more and network more, but the best thing you can do for your job is to work. Note that this is the structure we implemented with the 3 interns we hired after.
