Are you giving people their flowers? When was the last time you celebrated a win? Whether it's a huge milestone or a small victory, celebrating those moments is key to keeping both you and your team motivated for the long game. We all need to feel seen, or we start running on empty. However, you need to make it make sense. Ever bought a round of coffee for a bunch of tea drinkers? Yeah... me neither. The key is knowing what actually matters to your team. Maybe it's a shoutout in a meeting, a quick handwritten note, or a lunch (just make sure it’s not during Ramadan or Lent—ask me how I know). How often should you do it? There’s no strict formula, but I like to celebrate at key moments—after a big project launch, a sprint, or even when things didn’t go as planned (hello, rollbacks!). It’s about acknowledging both the major wins and the tiny steps that got you there. Team wins, individual wins—no one's left out. So here's your cue: Who on your team deserves a shoutout right now? And how can you show it in a way that feels personal? Oh, and don’t forget to give yourself some credit too! You’re part of the team after all. PS: Thanks for my flowers, you know who you are 😊.

In my circle, we celebrate Wins on Wednesdays…but, what about the Losses it took to get there? New share in the comments... “You’re rewarded in public for what you practice in private.” Most of us have heard that quote. The problem is, we fail to remind ourselves while celebrating someone else's Win… In practice, you’re guaranteed to fail (over and over again)—we call it learning. So why do we compare ourselves to the success of others, without knowing the hell they went through in private? That’s the risk you take when celebrating wins. The mind isn’t always on our side. I don’t think it’s far off to add that it rarely is. And while the responsibility falls on the individual to get their mindset right, it’s our responsibility to be transparent. So, this is my attempt at that. I’d love it if you shared an L in the comments too. Let’s celebrate our Losses—I’ll see you there.

Ask any sales or marketing professional… Launching new products and building new territories is not easy. Over a year ago my husband, Dean Peaple , joined this company to launch a new division of window coverings. Through operations and production challenges, changes in leadership and the minimal marketing support common with ‘startups’ - my husband never gave up! I have watched him be tenacious and creative, using common sense, guerilla tactics, and teamwork- always finding a way. I know the road is long, - and I admire my husbands patience and perseverance. When you work hard and see a reward with a Win like this- you have to celebrate! Most of us are so busy doing the work we do- we forget to take time to celebrate the wins. It’s as easy as 123… 1. Take a moment to reflect on your wins 2. Be proud of your accomplishments, 3. Share your gratitude with those that helped you achieve your goals. Celebrate the Wins!

My clients pay me for different ways of thinking and proposing ideas they wouldn’t have thought of. Then they get all bristly and prickly when I propose them. “that’ll never work because…” Sometimes I can “sell” them on it. Sometimes I can’t. It’s how it is in what we do. Here’s one thing I’ve found that helps make the case: Clear visualization of how this new thing will work. Most non marketers can’t understand all the parts of a moving funnel without a picture of it. But when you’re presenting something that’s a dramatic change to their sales and marketing process, or even something completely novel, you can’t simply talk about it. Take for example building a value ladder. As a fan of utility-based marketing (providing tools along the journey), one of the most effective ways to get the opportunities that are mostly likely to buy is to take a process you would conduct during onboarding, and make it a self serve tool that sits right before the sale. “That’s crazy, that’s a lot of work” No kidding. But how much time and money did you blow on google ads and ineffective social media on 2023? Eliminating gated PDF downloads and moving a tool (like a 20 question current state assessment) into the email collection slot gives you: - Something useful to your future customer - First party data for sales team (they can see the answers to the assessment and frame personalized pitch… accelerates the sale) - First party data for marketers to do smarter marketing - A roadmap to success for you - Expedient customer onboarding and retention Why isn’t every company offering this up? Initial cost. They’ve never done it. Sales and organizational resistance to change. It’s not “sexy” (although it can be). Think this wouldn’t work for you? We’ve used this to drive qualified traffic and leads to biotech, pharma, medical device and manufacturing. Anyway, when initially presenting this idea, no one buys it. But once a picture of the flow and the cost/benefit analysis is laid out, it’s a no-brainer. Moral? Pictures sell. Client: Here's an idea. Consultant: That will hurt ROI/engagement/insert metric here. Consultant: This will help you achieve your business goal. Client: That is not in the budget. There's always a back-and-forth, but things are never black and white. Compromise is key!

I don’t usually question things too much, but there’s something I’ve been thinking about that I’d love to get some perspective on. And whilst I’m at it let me throw my disclaimer: I’m not discrediting any award(s)……So, we’ve all seen this recent rise in awards and recognitions, right? While it’s always nice to be acknowledged for hard work, I can’t shake the feeling that these awards are starting to feel a bit... off. Let me explain. It seems like a lot of these awards nowadays are becoming more about which company can sponsor the event, rather than who genuinely deserves to win. It’s like the more you sponsor, the bigger the chance you’ll walk away with the “Best of the Best” trophy. It’s almost as if some of these awards have turned into profit-making machines in disguise, rather than true merit-based recognition. Take, for example, that one time you see a company win "Best Customer Service" after being a top sponsor, even though everyone knows their customer service is questionable at best. Or when you notice that only those who paid for a table at the awards dinner are up for the top prizes. I mean, how does that work? And, honestly, why should we have to pay to be recognized for doing a great job? If it’s really based on merit, shouldn’t we be the ones getting the reward, not handing over cash for a plaque? Let’s not forget the kicker: you get nominated, don’t sponsor the event, and somehow—surprise, surprise—you fall just short of winning. 😂 But maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m missing something here. However, I do think it’s worth asking: when we celebrate excellence, shouldn’t it be for actual excellence, not for how much we’ve sponsored? What do you think?
