Every month we like to choose a project to feature. This month, we’ve chosen Bloxham School, Stonehill House. Stonehill House was nominated for ‘Project of the Year’ at OxPropFest Awards 2023. The thriving independent coeducation school required a solution that would enable the school to achieve 40 boarding places, as well as a new common room and tutor room, to facilitate growth of the school. *Project challenge* There are challenges to overcome with every project, and that is what makes each one unique and interesting to work on. Those challenges are one of the reasons we chose Bloxham School as our Project of the Month. Key considerations: - Located in a conservation area - Grade II listed building - Limited vehicular access - Structural challenges - Proximity to residential properties Take a look at the journey and how the school achieved its vision: https://lnkd.in/eP75NzxE #featuredproject #planning #bloxham #oxfordshire #planningpermission #school #conservationarea #listedbuilding Image credit: Clews Architects and Andy Marshall, Fotofacade

It is good to see this nationwide programme of school rebuilds following the RAAC crisis is underway with this contract win for BAM Construction and Ryder Architecture. Last September, Emma Greenland, our Education Sector lead, wrote a short piece highlighting the key acoustic considerations that should be given to projects requiring improvement works including:- >When replacing RAAC roofing slabs, a replacement lightweight roof needs to be checked to ensure environmental noise ingress (for schools near to airports for example), rain noise and fixed plant noise ingress is not going to be an issue, and sound insulation of walls is not compromised by transmission via the partition head. >Replacement ceilings need to include fixed or suspended sound absorption and/or acoustic wall panels in order to achieve good control of reverberation time and hence suitable listening conditions for all students, but particularly those with: - Special Hearing and Communication Needs - English as an additional Language, - younger children, - Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) and AD/HD - SLCN, Language Impairment and even Dyslexia If your school is affected by the RAAC crisis, or you happen to be involved with the refurbishment of one, we can offer advice to check the potential impact of alternative facilities and upgrade schemes on acoustics and listening in schools. For this year’s final #BlackHistoryMonth community spotlight, KAI looks to the Arlington Grove Apartments project. Located in the City of St. Louis, this special project included the redevelopment of the William B. Ittner designed Arlington School, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register of Historic Places, managed by the National Park Service, aims to facilitate public and private initiatives in identifying, assessing, and safeguarding America's historical and archaeological assets. KAI was chosen by the St. Louis Housing Authority to perform Design-Build services and transform the block into a $34 million, 162,000 square foot mixed-income and mixed-finance residential development that includes 112 units of apartments, townhouses, and semi-detached housing as well as a mixed-use building and renovated school. The 91 construction housing units included a heavy emphasis on sustainability that positively impacts both the residents and the community for years to come. The opportunity to help provide people in underserved areas with a meaningful place to live and a starting point for a better future is something on which we’ve built our legacy. Our mission of transforming communities is part of every project we take part in and is a mission we strive for with each step we take into the future. We have documented the construction of a wide range of education facilities, from primary schools to universities. Our systems capture the entire building process, recording the development of spaces where future generations will learn and grow. Each project, whether a primary school, middle school, high school, college, or university, is recorded in detail, showing the building's progress until it is a completed educational institution. The footage serves as a visual record of the work that goes into creating environments for education, highlighting the construction milestones that shape these vital community assets. Through time-lapse, the transformation of architectural designs into functional learning spaces is preserved, creating a lasting record of the development of educational infrastructure. #education #tes #schoolbuild #timelapse #timelapseUK #schoolconstruction

BE Collective Managing Director - Simplifying the process of creating buildings for our clients and delivering spaces that improve lives
I am very grateful and humbled to have been nominated as Fenland Business Person of the Year. However, this is something that I find incredibly awkward, I don’t like focussing on myself and the achievements of the collective are down to the whole team and not only me. The interview with the judges last week was uncomfortable for me, however, it did allow me to reflect on the great progress that we have made over the past 3 years, there is too much to mention, but here are some highlights: - Set short, medium and long term goals with action plans - Evolved our vision and mission building on our core values of customer service and creating the type of environment we want to work in - Untangling of ownership and responsibility roles, clarifying roles and responsibilities - Changed our mindset - Always seeking ways to improve from the smallest to biggest details - Recruited key team members that fit with our culture - Joined forces with Jan JLM Health and Safety Ltd - Expanded our White & Eddy service offering - Improved processes and procedures with the focus on simplicity - Formed WE Consulting Engineers allowing us to offer Structural and Civil Engineering - Launched new and updated websites - Created a team to focus solely on our residential extensions and alterations projects - Arranged business coaching and appointed a non-executive chair Andy Leet - Working with the wonderful Joe Mills, FCIPD Tree Academy to improve our people focus, communication and human connection This has all been driven with a focus on our clients and our vision of: Simplifying the Process of Creating buildings for our clients and to deliver spaces that improve the lives of people that use them This underpins everything we do! It’s not been without its challenges, but I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved to date and there is more to come!! More to follow on that this afternoon... Its may be too late, but here is a to a great 2024!!
Good end to a good week. Our Managing Director Jamie Burton was interviewed as part of the Fenland Business Awards. He has been nominated for businesses person of the year and we are all looking forward to the celebrations in a couple of weeks. We have more exciting news to share leading up to a big announcement so look out for first clues next week. #architect #becollectice #businesss #fenlandbusinessawards https://lnkd.in/e6veXTR2

Director at Matt Messias Impact Leadership Ltd; LeadershipCoach; Mental Health First Aid Instructor (MHFA England)
The work we’re doing is so important for young people- to give them confidence that they can succeed in a challenging, complex, and competitive world. Loving this #collaboration #partnership #growthmindset
Founder and Chief Executive at Class Of Your Own Limited (COYO) President, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors 2024 Social Entrepreneur and Built Environment Education Evangelist
There will be many young people having a good lie in this morning, breathing a huge sigh of relief now that they have their exam results. Today is the first day of a new life that for many, will be defined by the grades they received. Some will have their next move already figured out, many won’t. Some will ask for help, some won’t know who to turn to. Some won’t even realise they need it. Working with teachers and students for the last 20 years (and indeed reflecting on my own experiences at school) has taught me that the development of future-focused skills, emotional intelligence and resilience is essential in preparing children and young people for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century construction industry. So, it’s been great to work with the excellent Matt Messias over the past few months to help realise our ‘Resilient Future Construction Leaders” programme of Continuous Professional Development; that promotes a high-performance culture for our students - the ‘future’ of construction. Matt and I really enjoyed catching up with Dan Heffernan from AtkinsRéalis yesterday, to update him on our progress. When I put out my own call for help, Dan was there straight away to back our plan, and no surprise - where young people and opportunities are concerned, he shares my determination! Matt has now met with nearly all our pilot schools and feedback has been excellent so far - thank you to teachers and students at Sir George Monoux College, Stratford upon Avon School, King Ecgbert School, Cronton Sixth Form College, Alder Grange School, Hautlieu School, Highlands College, Jersey for sharing their thoughts - and also at Balwearie High and Southmoor Academy, where visits are planned next month. Thanks to my two giants of social impact, we’re well on track to develop the next phase of our programme for #DEC schools everywhere, supporting the well-being and professional development of our students - and everyone connected to them. #equity #education #wellbeing #skills #behaviour #confidence #resilience #socialimpact #REALvalue #children #future
