Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) created the Autonomous Grand Challenge on March 13th, 2004. Now comes AUTONOMY PRIME. Autonomy is not a feature; it is the North Star. Twenty years ago today, the inaugural DARPA Grand Challenge set the stage for the self-driving industry we know today. Nobody won, but it was far from a flop.
