Our latest report co-written w. @gasnoessolucion exposes the toxic truth behind Europe's LNG obsession! 🛢️🔥 EU continues to externalize the human toll of #fracking and #LNGimports onto frontline communities across the Atlantic Ocean. In 2023 alone, #US LNG imports made up a staggering 48% of the EU's total LNG imports, predominantly sourced from the Gulf Coast region. The #LNGboom spells disaster for the environment, polluting air, water, and soil of local communities, while perpetuating environmental racism. Those residing near LNG & fracking facilities are forced to live under a constant threat, robbed of their right to a safe & healthy environment. #FrackingHypocrisy #StopLNG Read more here - https://bit.ly/4aKEtDR

DID YOU KNOW ❓❓ On December 2, 2023 the EPA issued a final ruling for oil and gas operations in an effort to reduce methane emissions and other harmful pollution. This ruling means new and currently running oil and gas operations are required to make the necessary changes to ensure they are following the new guidelines. By reducing the amount of methane in the air, the environment will have a better chance at recovering. FROM THE BAYELSA OFFICE It is known that Gas flaring is an illegal act perpetrated by the Oil companies and hence, the introduction of payment of fines from defaulting oil companies. However, making payment of fines for gas flaring as a related crime is in itself not just ridiculous, but portrays the fine collector as a rent seeker at the expense of the general safety and good of the people. For once, government should take the issue of gas flaring seriously and put an end to the resource wastage and pollution of the environment. Stakeholders should not relent, but tighten the pressure to ensure routine flaring of gas becomes history. - Alagoa Morris Program Manager & Head of the Niger Delta Resource Center, ERA/FoEN . . . . #erafoen #climatejustice #ERA #savetheearth #notogasflaring #dontletafricaburn #wastemanagement #climatechange #ClimateJustice #lossanddamage #environment #EnvironmentalJustice

Hoping that COP29 will give #methane the highlight it deserves, stricter regulations on venting, flaring and fugitive emissions from oil and gas as well as coal mining. And as always, monitoring and reporting come first. We cannot control/mitigate what we do not track

This new Greenpeace USA and Sierra Club report follows on my recent post about how the oil and gas industry claims they are reducing pollution on one hand while they continually request new permits to pollute tons of new pollution. While my post was about upstream and midstream permits, this report is focused on the health impacts created from permitted LNG facilities. The list of health impacts from LNG air pollution is jaw-dropping. Combine this with the upstream and midstream impacts plus those from power plants and delivering and use of natural gas in homes and businesses and it's a grim picture. We no longer have to live this way. Permit To Kill Potential Health and Economic Impacts from U.S. LNG Export Terminal Permitted Emissions

Methane leaks should be an easy, obvious and cheap way of massively reduce air pollution and climate change without having to change industry or consumption, since its pure waste reduction. Fast way to get the incetives right is a methane tax implemented globally, however no need to wait for anyone else, in goverment, EU or least of all COP to agree on it. Beauty of taxes on negative externalities is everyone wins. Well except the polluters in the short run perhaps. #Plugit!

Carbon dioxide and methane are both odourless gases that cannot be seen by naked eyes. Methane gas is naturally odourless, which makes detecting leaks difficult using smell alone. This presents a significant safety risk, as methane is highly flammable and can be explosive when mixed with air in certain concentrations. Methane is being used for home heating and cooking. To mitigate this risk, manufacturers are required to add a distinctive scent to methane — commonly a sulfur-like odour from a compound called mercaptan. This odourization helps individuals detect even small leaks quickly and take appropriate actions to prevent accidents or explosions. This practice enhances safety in residential, commercial, and industrial environments where methane gas is used.

Canada is striving to meet its environmental commitments, bolster its economy, and create a lower carbon energy sector. Reducing methane and other greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions in the oil and gas sector is an important part of accomplishing these goals.
