"Session 3: Delivering Economic Security – The path to a self-reliant European space supply chain"- "The EU finds itself at a crucial junction concerning its leadership in the space domain. Over the past years, and against a background of intensifying geopolitical tensions, the European Union dependency on space-based technologies, components and advanced materials has been-increasing, feeding a profound reflection on our global economy, national security, and everyday lives. This session will look at the actions that need to be taken to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of the European space industry. It will explore the importance of fostering a culture of innovation, resilience and collaboration among European space stakeholders, ensuring a steady flow of investment into cutting-edge technologies, and streamlining regulatory processes to accelerate the development and deployment of new space capabilities. As we navigate the complexities of an emerging space race, the European space industry stands at a crossroads. How can we ensure that we take the right path and ensure a secure, sustainable and resiliant European Space Supply Chain that continues to support our economic prosperity, delivering societal well-being and global leadership?"

We are thrilled to announce the largest funding round in the European space technology sector since 2021.
Today, our space tech portfolio company, Isar Aerospace, announced a Series C extension to take its overall close to over EUR 220m, bringing total funding to more than EUR 400m. This funding round re-affirms Isar's position to become Europe’s leading launch service provider ensuring access to space from Europe.
And, in another first for Isar Aerospace, the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) has invested in what is the Fund's first direct investment in a satellite launch service provider - signalling a pivotal moment for European and global defence capabilities.
Lakestar has been proud to support and champion the European space tech industry, and we believe that much of Europe’s digital sovereignty will be decided in space. That’s why we are laser-focused on strengthening the European space tech ecosystem, which is home to some of the most developed scientific institutions and universities globally.
We have backed Isar Aerospace since leading their Series B in 2020, then the biggest funding round in European space tech, and it has now become the most capitalized independent New Space company in Europe. The company is currently developing a launch service provider for small and medium-sized satellites that will offer Europe sustainable and cost-effective access to space.
Lakestar is committed to backing transformative players in space tech, and we can't wait to see how the sector evolves in the near future as we approach a new age of European-led space technology.

[Time to embrace collaboration]
First of all, thank the Swedish embassy for the warm hospitality and exciting (and spectacular) discussions during our meeting.
Swedish space companies are internationally competitive. They are found on numerous satellite applications across the globe.
Sweden is also the first European nation that has a facility that can launch its satellites. To quote Anna Rathsman, Direct General for the Swedish National Space Agency, not many countries in the world have that capability.
Space technologies can tackle many of the world’s most pressing business and societal challenges here on Earth if we choose to work together rather than compete with each other. Communications, navigation, and Earth observation services… the potential of the space-enabled technology is limitless.
That’s why we should reimagine the way we think about the space industry. In an increasingly globalized world, we must recognize space as a global endeavor. Global collaboration in the space industry has already proven to be massively beneficial (ISS is the most obvious example of this), and there are many working examples of international collaboration to foster collaboration and resource sharing between nations who believe in the peaceful use of outer space.
As one of the founding members of ESA since the start, Sweden always has been promoting international space cooperation. I am sure there are exciting galaxy opportunities we can navigate together.

"Session 2: Space Sustainability – Binding Regulation -v-The Space Race." "The space economy is evolving like never before. An unprecedented amount of public and private investment is going into new constellations leading to a renewed space race, and, causing concern for governments the world over about the sustainability of space for future generations. The boom in satellites being launched into space was arguably foreseeable a decade ago. This led to the adoption of the Long-Term Sustainability Guidelines by the UN in 2019. Yet the world remains far from agreeing on a binding set of norms and regulations that are vitally needed if the risks resulting from congestion in space are truly to be mitigated. Voluntary initiatives such as Charters and Sustainability Ratings continue to emerge but risk falling short of making a tangible difference. The European Union however is pioneering an approach that could put Europe at the forefront of binding regulation. The proposed EU Space Law (EUSL) is set to provide potentially binding measures (rules) and non-binding measures (labels) for the development of sustainable activities in space."...
