ONRSR's 2022–2023 ONRSR Rail Safety Report provides a national perspective of rail safety performance across Australia through the last financial year. For the first time our statistical and observational summary draws on the National Rail Safety Data Strategy (NDS) as its primary source. As always, the report highlights where there are lessons to be learned but it is pleasing to note that safety performance continues to be strong across the state rail sectors and rail industry. Rail remains a safe and reliable part of the national transport picture and is well positioned to play an even bigger part in driving economic and social benefit for Australia.
