Have you given in to the pressure of renaming the DEI initiatives at your organization? We understand the temptation, but your employees will likely not see it this way and this will directly impact your company's bottom line. Legal attacks often target quotas, but DEI efforts can also improve recruitment, retention, and workplace culture. Instead of rebranding your DEI initiatives, focus on the true essence of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ask yourself, if you’re changing the name of these units to protect yourself, what message are you sending to your marginalized employees? What efforts are you taking to protect them? Instead of succumbing to pressure to rebrand, focus on the core objectives of DEI. Ensure your efforts reflect genuine commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion by addressing recruitment, retention, and improving workplace culture. Collect data in these areas to support your efforts and make your case. Changing the name doesn't address the real goal of creating a fair, inclusive, and supportive workplace for everyone. It only makes marginalized people feel even more marginalized. Need help protecting the DEI initiatives at your organization? "But the company, which ranks sixth among midsize employers on the Tribune’s list of Top Workplaces, as measured by consultancy Energage in Exton, Pennsylvania, isn’t just looking to succeed in the advertising space. In 2001, CEO Shawn Riegsecker laid out a plan in the company’s founding manifesto for Basis to be a blueprint for how other corporations should operate." 🙏🏽💖 My prayers go out to the loved ones lost and the families and communities impacted by the air tragedy that occurred last night near Reagan National airport. For so many reasons the events in January have created agita amongst many of us. A source for me is the recent Presidential EOs on rolling back diversity, equity and inclusion commitments in the federal government and the implications for private industry. While many companies have also publicly announced their pull back on DEI, I can still see that for most there is a commitment to inclusion and equity within their company values. It seems that as the wind blows, these announcements are also a form of rebranding. As Lauren Giella writes, “A diverse and inclusive workforce brings new and varying perspectives and ideas that drive creativity, innovation and, ultimately, revenue.” DEI shouldn’t be a box to check - it should be rooted in a company’s values. It’s about ensuring business strategies align with those values to foster workplaces where employees feel seen, heard, and supported. I loved contributing to this article and applaud the companies recognized in this Newsweek ranking, as well as those who are continuing to dedicate resources and making strides behind the scenes to create meaningful change. Together, we’re building a future where inclusivity drives innovation and success. https://lnkd.in/e2tXKjvw
