Deborah 'Kemi Olakunle, also known as Kemi The Changemaker, has one big ambition; a Nigeria where every citizen has access to affordable and quality healthcare, regardless of their socioeconomic status. To achieve this objective, she started raising funds using her creativity. “I love painting, and I started selling my art pieces which allowed me to provide financial and psychological support to 100 chronically sick Nigerians who couldn't afford medical bills. But I knew we needed something bigger. I decided to enroll in a master's program in public health, where I discovered the possibilities around health insurance,” Kemi said. In 2023, Kemi started her social enterprise known as Health4Moni, a healthtech company that provides affordable health insurance to low-income Nigerians using the daily contributions model whilst giving them access to a savings net and investment opportunities to eradicate poverty. As an outstanding women entrepreneur, Kemi is recognized this year as one of the 15 winners of Bayer Foundation's Women Empowerment Award 2024. She brought one of her art pieces along to the award ceremony at our #SocialInnovationDays24 in Berlin, and the painting has since then been displayed on the walls of our Berlin office, reminding us of the vision and drive of our social innovation partners. 🏆 Learn more about our Women Empowerment Award 2024 winners: https://lnkd.in/ekS2HB6E 📰 Read more about our Social Innovation Days 2024: https://lnkd.in/erNcF-e2 #Healthcare #WomenEntrepreneurship #WomenEmpowermentAward

⚫ 👨⚕️WHAT'S GOING ON AT ALPHA?👩⚕️ 🔴 One of our directors Catia Jesus got the opportunity to get the ball rolling with our new client #Medicade! #Medicade's Directors have started a scheme in support to the health industry in third world countries called #WeAllDeserve. ✌WHAT IS THE W.A.D SCHEME & THIER MISSION? 👨👩👧👦 This scheme was started by a group of Nigerian investors who saw a need in the health industry in a few third world countries. They were in shock at the lack of resources a lot of these countries had as well as the systems in place to support unwell children, women and men. At #WeAllDeserve, their mission is to provide a supportive and resilient network for health professionals, ensuring that everyone has access to the essential health supplies and equipment needed to thrive and survive. 🔴 HOW DO WE GET INVOLVED? ⚫ Alpha Business S&S were contracted by #Medicade to go through all four phases of implementation as per below. For us the important points was ensuring: 1. We had all the information based on the market and countries in question. 2. We understand the needs and support required in these countries. 3. Establish the legalties and freight services to ensure a smooth operation. 4. Review and re-implement any areas of concerns with the operations. 5. This exciting new collaboration between The Sanitation and Hygiene Fund and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation along with our collaboration with 2X Global are important steps forward in our mission to address the gross inequality that too many women and girls are not able to manage their menstruation safely. By building menstrual health marketplaces we can ensure that all menstruators can access products of their choice which are safe, affordable, sustainable and available in the necessary quantity. When women and girls can safely manage their menstruation it means their education will not be disturbed and women can continue their economic activities. Many people will rightly wonder why this has not happened before now and why today with the global supply chains as they are that so many women and girls are still not able to access such a core commodity as menstrual hygiene products. While the reasons are complex we do know that the current approach is failing too many people and this is what this new collaboration will address. None of this would have been possible without the generous and unwavering support of the Government of the Netherlands and the Government of Switzerland who have remained committed to addressing this gross inequality for women and girls. On 30th and 31st March #CPL organised series of sessions with Nivedita Krishna Founder Director Pacta Session 1: Overview of the Social Sector Session 2: Navigating regulations of NGO’s in India. From dissecting the legal nuances of the FCRA to unraveling the intricate web of regulatory frameworks, these sessions illuminated the path for NGOs navigating the complexities of foreign funding. Discussions ventured into the delicate balance between public and private sectors, dissecting capitalism’s influence on philanthropy and the pressing need for hybrid models. Session 1 kicked off with a captivating overview, shedding light on the legal hurdles faced by NGOs, while emphasizing the imperative of adapting to ever-evolving regulations. From CSR obligations to personal anecdotes, the discourse resonated with professionals striving to make a difference amidst regulatory constraints. Session 2 was equally enlightening, zeroing in on the nitty-gritty of NGO operations in India. Grants, budgeting, and compliance took center stage as participants explored the challenges of accessing unrestricted funds, and the emergence of trust-based philanthropy models like social impact bonds. But it wasn’t just about challenges; it was about solutions and innovation. Flexible funding approaches were dissected, alongside the strategic motivations of funders, transcending mere altruism. Encouraging to see 🏛national governments leading with significant financial commitments to menstrual health and hygiene - even from the global south! At the same time, we know that institutional donors and the private sector can play a catalytic role to advance various aspects of menstrual health through their investments. 💸 Fantastic to see product access as a focus area for investment, yet to truly enable menstrual health for all - we need more funding for awareness generation and education, health services, de-stigmatization, responsive WASH and waste management services, research, and advocacy. Senior Director in Global Policy & Sustainability | Driving Economic Empowerment Initiatives | Leading Global Teams to Deliver Social Impact solutions at The Coca-Cola Company | Board Member
Witness The Journey…Project Last Mile Unveils Its 14-year Impact Have you ever wondered why you can find a Coca-Cola product almost anywhere in Africa, but not life-saving medicines? Well, you’re not alone! In 2010, The Global Fund and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation asked the same question. The Coca-Cola Company responded by partnering to leverage its system's know-how and expertise in supply chain management and strategic marketing by designing solutions to strengthen health systems. And thus, Project Last Mile was born. Statistically, it has been noted that nearly 50% of people in Africa lack access to critical medicines. This is in part, due to weak health systems characterized by inadequate health infrastructure. Project Last Mile works closely with public health systems and social enterprises to share The Coca-Cola System's expertise in supply chain, cold chain and marketing to improve access, availability and uptake of life-saving medicines and health services down to the last mile on the continent. Project Last Mile has implemented programs across multiple countries on the continent, positively impacting millions of lives, since its inception. This video captures 14 years of pioneering cross-sector partnerships that have harnessed private sector expertise, networks, and innovations to strengthen global health systems. 🚀🌍 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲🏥: Let's have a closer look at the impact of mobile money on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being ☝ Did you know that Mobile money is more than just a payment method; it's a lifeline for health emergencies and a bridge to better health services. ⏱️ Mobile money has revolutionized healthcare funding. In Kenya, the cradle of innovation mobile money, 35% of low-income families pay hospital bills via mobile transfers. This immediate access to funds is crucial in emergencies, breaking down financial barriers to health care. 💯 Efficiency in health programs is another significant benefit of mobile money. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted mobile money as a payment solution for agents involved in its polio eradication initiative across eight African nations. This approach proved successful due to several key factors: it effectively minimized risks of embezzlement and fraud, guaranteed timely payments to agents thereby boosting their motivation, and enhanced transparency and accuracy through data collection ✨ At Hub2, we're committed to leveraging mobile money for sustainable health solutions.
