🏥 Mohamed Jamaal and his colleagues at the Afya Innovation Lab are trying to bring together multiple stakeholders to build transformative healthcare solutions. Mohammed, the Co-founder of Afya Innovation Lab, is building a community that aims to foster a culture of health entrepreneurship and innovation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi. 👩⚕️ The aim is to bring together researchers, academia, healthcare professionals, and young innovators to work on projects that have impactful outcomes and promote #African socioeconomic development. 🌍 He wants #healthcare workers and medical students to be aware of the problems and challenges the continent is facing and to propose avant-garde solutions. #FuturizeEntrepreneurSpotlight

Today, we are introducing Cardiac TEK from Tanzania 🇹🇿! Cardiac TEK leverages advanced AI and cloud technology to provide accurate, real-time ECG interpretations, enabling early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases, particularly in underserved African regions. 🏥❤️ Longnus Gilbert, one of the founders, shares his motivation behind this mission 💬 "My clinical rotations in the cardiology unit at Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute exposed me to the heartbreaking reality faced by many cardiac patients, particularly those from rural areas who arrive with poor prognoses due to late diagnosis and delayed access to specialized cardiovascular care. Witnessing these challenges firsthand, I felt a strong responsibility to address the gap in access to timely and effective cardiovascular care. This experience inspired me to co-found Cardiac TEK, with a vision to leverage technology to improve and democratize access to specialized cardiac care across Africa." Praise Orly Atadja, another key member of the team, adds: "When I was ten, I dreamed of mending broken hearts after a lesson on the circulatory system. Although I didn't follow that path, the dream resurfaced during my final year of tertiary education while working on my capstone project. I couldn't become a cardiologist, but I found a way to contribute by creating technology to support those in the field. 🚀 Futurize and AstraZeneca announce the 2nd Cohort for its African Healthcare Incubator #FuturizeU, through the A.Catalyst Network. The 2024 cohort runs from August 12 until November 12, continuing our mission to nurture early-stage, health care focused university startups with the support of the A. Catalyst Network’s Africa and Egypt Health Innovation Hubs. 🌍 With over 150 applications, the program admitted the top 14 teams from partner universities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
