"How can governments foster a climate of #innovation 💡 in sustainable aviation?" Our panelists and participants at this year’s #BerlinAviationSummit2024 identified 4 key aspects: 1️⃣ Governments must increase their support for #research and #development of new technologies – it is crucial for advancing sustainable aviation. 2️⃣ Governments are called upon to create a regulatory framework that incentivizes the early use and production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (#SAF) without excessive bureaucracy. 3️⃣ Governments need to focus on building #infrastructure for SAF and hydrogen to support sustainable aviation. 4️⃣ Last but not least, governments should provide necessary #funds to build factories and facilitate the production of SAF. For more insights listen to Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, Joanna Drake, Deputy Director General, DG Research & Innovation, European Commission, Sarah Ryglewski, Minister of State & Member of Parliament, and Markus Otto, SVP Aviation Europe, DHL Express. 🎬👇 Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. ✈️ Aviation is often seen as a "hard-to-abate" sector— meaning that it is not easy to decarbonise. This is mainly due to the massive amounts of energy required to get tonnes and tonnes worth of aircraft into the air. But decarbonising aviation isn't impossible! Why? Because all players in the sector are determined to get there and are turning words into concrete actions.🌍 A4E, alongside ACI EUROPE, CANSO, Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), and the European Regions Airline Association, has set out a roadmap containing measures to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 through the Destination 2050 Alliance. This week, we also called on policymakers to include aviation in the Clean Industrial Deal. This will be an important early priority for the next European Commission—and essential for aviation's green transition. You can find out more details in the comments. 🚀 You can also check out one of our latest videos, where A4E’s Communications Director Kevin Hiney explains how policymakers can help accelerate aviation's decarbonisation journey by including it in the Clean Industrial Deal 🎥 #Sustainability #NetZero2050 #FlyingForOurFuture

In April 2023, the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) welcomed the launch of Sustainable Aviation's (SA) updated Net Zero Carbon Road-Map. This outlined how UK aviation can continue to grow while still meeting the sector's 2050 Net Zero commitments. A follow-up Technical Report released in June provides further rationale, assumptions and data utilised to compile the Road-Map. This report not only explains the depth of evidence behind this publication but also raises the importance of long-term investment in next-generation flight technology. ATI Head of Technology – Sustainability and Strategy, Adam Morton noted how this sector endorsement reflects the essential role of UK, home-grown aircraft technologies alongside better fuels, improved aircraft operations and deployment of carbon removal. 📔 Read the Sustainable Aviation Technical Report here: https://lnkd.in/eAc6vu6N #sustainability #netzero #netzerocarbon #aviation #aerospace

Thank you EPICO KlimaInnovation for the invitation to take part in yesterday’s panel discussion on the role of #hydrogen in the #aviation sector. Your recent paper provides a timely state of play of where we stand and highlighted the need to: - Increase R&D funding - Provide incentives for the development of the Hydrogen market, - Develop the necessary related infrastructures at the european level. However, as mentioned during the weblive a global solution is needed at International Civil Aviation Organization on standards and #Corsia. Thank you to Hildegard Bentele and Jane Amilhat for the very engaging discussion that allowed us to emphasize the importance of the role of the policy makers in the decarbonisation journey and the urgency for Europe to accelerate. #SAF and #Hydrogen are fundamental parts of Airbus, #IATA, #ATAG and #ICAO’s global, integrated aviation decarbonisation roadmaps. #Airbus is contributing to a decarbonisation roadmap that is aligned with the objectives of the #EU Clean Industrial Deal to meet the industry’s target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, while contributing to the EU’s industrial competitiveness at the same time. Given the scale of the challenge and the potential benefits, all hands are needed on deck to support the decarbonisation of aviation, a European public good! If you are in the aerospace industry or aerospace students, and wondering what is the next step in the EU for aero, it is highly recommended that you go through the document indeed.
🚀 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟱 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁! We’re excited to present our updated #SRIA, where the vision for the 2nd Phase of the Clean Aviation programme is outlined. This phase focuses on four cutting-edge aircraft concepts designed to revolutionise SMR, Regional and Hydrogen segments with a strong emphasis on sustainability. ✈️With these innovations, we aim to reduce net-GHG emissions down to an average of 86% thanks to an improved efficiency of 30% from aircraft technological innovations at aircraft level and the use of SAF and Hydrogen. By 2030, we expect these technologies to reach #TRL6, paving the way for disruptive new products and services, ready for Entry in Service by 2035. In the words of Rosalinde van der Vlies, Chair Clean Aviation, European Commission Director of Clean Planet, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation states: "Decarbonising aviation in Europe relies significantly on investments in research and innovation, as well as strong coordinated approach at EU, national and regional level. This updated Clean Aviation Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda should serve as a compass for both the public and private sector in Europe, guiding the development of future disruptive aircraft technologies. It is an important piece of the puzzle to support the sustainable competitiveness of the EU aviation industry."
