Christian Owens shared a story of resilience, courage and self-discovery. It was the perfect way to round off this year’s Pride month events at Beckers. As part of Pride month, Beckers UK, in Liverpool, hosted an inspiring session that raised awareness of trans rights and issues around diverse and non-binary gender identities. It was a pleasure to welcome our guest speaker, Christian Owens, who shared his own story giving participants a first-hand account of transgender experiences in society and in the workplace. Christian’s story created the perfect springboard for a wider discussion on how we enact and protect our values as champions of a diverse and inclusive work culture in which everyone feels respected and able to be their authentic self. It also highlighted the importance of support systems and the crucial role that allyship can play in deepening community understanding as well as self-acceptance. A fun-filled off-site activation shows team spirit in rude health at Beckers Poland. Team spirit at Beckers Poland got an extra boost at the start of June, when around 70 employees took a trip together for a one-day activation event. As well as bringing the team together, such events have been shown to help improve collaboration and overall mental and physical wellbeing. It all took place at a beautiful location near a forest and a lake, about 40 km from our Tarnow site. Activities included climbing, a zip-line experience, go-karts, table tennis, archery and kayaking, finishing up with a disco and a riotous karaoke session. As well as being a lot of fun, such actions are part of a global mental health awareness drive at Beckers to which the local leadership team have added their own twist. Mental health starts at the top Attitudes and actions of leadership can significantly influence the mental health environment within the organization. Managers who take the lead on destigmatizing mental health issues can transform their organizational culture. Beckers Turkey hosted a strategy session that focused on the mental health training for our managers. The day was filled with insightful sessions and engaging activities. The highlight of the day was a special session led by a master instructor of the Buteyko Breathing Method and Oxygen Advantage. Accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature, she conducted a breathing therapy session for all participants. She showcased how we can reduce stress in our lives through correct breathing techniques. She also emphasized the positive impact that effective breathing can have not only in our professional lives but also in our personal lives. Beckers' Commitment to Sustainability: A Net Zero Future We are thrilled to announce that Beckers has become the first coil coatings company to commit to net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We have already made significant progress by reducing our absolute CO2e emissions in our own operations (scope 1 and 2) by 51% between 2013 and 2023. But we know that true success requires collective action. More than 98% of our emissions result from our customers and suppliers (scope 3), which is why we must collaborate with our entire value chain. Beckers France celebrated earlier in June the successful conclusion of a four-year refurbishment and extension project at the world-wide largest Beckers site, located in Montbrison, France. This ambitious, multi-phase construction project was designed to improve working conditions and ensure compliance with the most stringent environmental and safety standards. The result is a modern, spacious, bright and secure working environment that empowers operational efficiency and supports our sustainable innovation program. As well as functional and aesthetic improvements, the buildings now demonstrate high levels of energy efficiency.
