According to the US Census Bureau, first-time dads are more likely to take time off than ever before after the birth of their first child. Before 1975, only 7.5% of dads took time off work after the arrival of a new baby, but between 2016 and 2019, 66.5% of fathers took some form of leave. Taking paternity leave is crucial for new dads to bond with their newborns, support their partners, and experience the joys and challenges of early parenthood. Research has shown this time off fosters stronger family relationships and contributes to long-term emotional and developmental benefits for the child. Encouraging paternity leave helps promote gender equality and work-life balance in modern families. In Georgia, time-use data 📊 are helping spur more fathers to take paternity leave and share the care work 👏 Time use surveys reveal how people spend their time and highlight the gender inequalities in paid 💼 and unpaid work 🏠. The latest survey, conducted by National Statistics Office of Georgia - Geostat and UN Women supported by the #WomenCount programme, revealed that women in #Georgia spend half as much time as men on paid work and twice as much time as men on unpaid work. Now, private sector companies, including TBC and ტერაბანკი •Terabank are using these data to drive change! After discovering the survey results, they launched mandatory gender equality training and actively promoted men’s involvement in childcare and the company’s fully-paid parental leave of up to 6 months.🙌 Discover more about how data is helping the private sector champion paternity leave and challenge social norms around childcare: https://lnkd.in/diamv9Fb #GenderDataForChange | #SDG5

Founder of circular commerce and content platform For The Creators - The go-to destination for modern motherhood. Raising EIS Investment
Since 1911, #iwd has become a vital day for acknowledging women's progress and addressing ongoing challenges in gender equality. But there is still so much more to do.... We need safe births for all.. Maternity care should not discriminate yet disparities alarmingly persist. Black women face a risk 3.7 times higher than White women; Asian women, 1.8 times higher. Equality in maternal care is a must. We need fair workplaces.. Motherhood shouldn’t dictate career prospects or how much we’re paid. Yet, mothers face bias in hiring and promotions with research reporting post-motherhood, women's earnings drop to almost half. Fairness in the workplace is our right. We need accessible family fitness.. Motherhood shouldn’t mean sacrificing our health. Over half of women reduce or stop exercise post-pregnancy, with barriers to childcare being a primary reason. We need universally accessible, affordable fitness options. IWD is just one day of 365. Together, we can fight the good fight for women and mothers, every day of the year. #internationalwomensday

This advert stopped me in my tracks. Usually I click 'skip' on Youtube adverts but I couldn't with this one. A perfect depiction of life as a new dad. Sleep deprived and going back to work while your partner is on maternity leave. Then dealing with pressure from work and a manager who lacks empathy. And your partner is struggling at home with a baby and a toddler. I love to see this honest representation of some of the pressures and realities of fatherhood, and motherhood. Especially when there is a lack of paternity leave available and the dad has to go back to work way to early. Enhanced paternity leave and Equal Parental Leave are essential workplace policies to improve gender equality, wellbeing and outcomes for our children. Founder, Talent On Leave: Elevating maternity/parental leave journeys with HR & People Leads, for talent confidence, engagement, development and career progression. Events | Coaching | Consultancy | Talks
This is such a powerful video. And I can hear a sigh. Of course, it’s not just parents that have to hold personal and professional realities. And yes, most parents (myself included) chose our beautiful chaos. And yes, there are tough days. And no, it’s not an employer’s problem, or for non parents to be expected to pick up the slack. No, nobody is looking for favours. But when we work together to bridge the gap between what we’re not saying and what might be possible, we’re failing to find the win-wins for our parent employee population who, by the way, have experienced a level of personal and neurological growth that most leadership courses couldn’t even hope to re-create. Imagine what’s possible when we harness that?! What can you do? If you’re a parent, be proud of your growth and commmunicate upwards, collaborating for the short term win-wins and long term opportunities. If you’re a manager, don’t be frightened of saying or doing the wrong thing. Just ask your team member what they need most that’s within your gift to give. If you’re an employer, think about how you’re creating psychological safety for your managers and your talent to have the conversations that loosen the bottle top of emotions just enough to communicate, collaborate, to feel like they still belong, and to perform. I promise you. This is where true talent retention, performance and progression is rooted. Have an awesome Monday people. Show up like a human, and not just a job title.

Inclusive action 7️⃣: #WorkingWhilePregnant - Men get saving if you want to ever see your baby… At 7 weeks pregnant my partner (he is a man) said to me… 💷 “I need to start saving if I’m going to take any reasonable amount of parental leave” I’m fortunate that as a woman who works for AtkinsRéalis with generous enhanced maternity pay and leave - I don’t have this concern. 🚺🚹 The problem though, almost universal for parents, is that unequal paid parental leave REINFORCES gender stereotypes. It’s the reason we can’t shift the gender pay gap. The reality is that we MUST invest in men if we want equality for women. So what’s my call to action? 👉 Find out if your organisation equally enhance paid parental leave for men and women. If not - ask your EDI lead, why not? 👉 If you are UK based, sign this petition. It takes less than a minute and supports much needed policy change for achieving gender equality. ✍️ sign here: https://lnkd.in/eeFBBPf9 What’s your experience #WorkingWhilePregnant with paid parental leave? It's hard for me to say Happy Mother's Day. Amid the flurry of cards and flowers, I can't help but think about America's $1.6 trillion annual gender wage gap, the well-documented motherhood promotion penalty, and the growing cost of childcare that has pushed millions of mothers out of the workforce. It feels incredulous that in a society that professes equality we have yet to elect a woman president or achieve anything resembling gender parity among Fortune 500 CEOs. (We're currently celebrating 10.8%) I love my children, and yet I struggle with the expectations of motherhood. How does anyone work a full day, get dinner ready by 6pm, and still have the mental capacity to navigate toddler bedtime negotiations without completely exploding? I have a beyond equal parenting partner, incredibly involved grandparents, a nanny, and a preschool, and yet it always feels like we're just barely holding it together. How the heck does everyone else do it??? Let's do more than celebrate moms one day a year. Let's hire them, support them, promote them, and elect them. None of us would be here without them. Let's start acting like they truly matter. #happymothersday #hiremoms #promotemoms #womenintheworkforce #femalefounders #momceo #mothersday #workforceequality #equalpay

New fathers need paternity leave. Research shows that it actually helps their brains develop parental instincts. When men take parental leave, everyone wins — moms, dads, children, and even workplaces. "A short-term time investment in spending engaged time with their new baby has the potential to pay a lifelong dividend in dad instincts. If we want to see greater gender equality, we need to not just focus on women’s participation in the professional world — we need to encourage more men to participate in the caregiving world." #liftery #tenmillionmoms #teamliftery #workingmoms #businessimpact #socialimpact #maleallies #genderequity 📩 Get Liftery in your inbox: liftery.com/newsletter

📢 Report Release: "The Participation of Fathers in the First Thousand Days in Italy" As we prepare to release new evidence in the coming months as part of our work on the Engaging Men in Nurturing Care (EMiNC) initiative, we want to highlight a vital report released last fall by #ISSAMember, Centre for Child Health and Development (Centro per la Salute del Bambino), exploring the state of fatherhood in Italy. The report focuses on structural and cultural factors affecting fathers' engagement, especially in the first thousand days of their child's life and emphasizes the importance of work-life balance policies for gender equality and enriched fatherhood experiences. Key insights include: - Low female employment and fertility rates in Italy. - Impact of limited childcare facilities and insufficient parental leave policies. - Cultural norms affecting the division of domestic work. The report also underscores the need for remote work and extended paternity leave to foster gender equality and support both parents in childcare. Learn more about the report in this article 🔗https://lnkd.in/d2BEfduw 📖 or read the full report (in Italian) on our website and learn how we can promote positive gender norms in #EarlyChildhood. #EMINC #Fatherhood #GenderEquality #WorkLifeBalance

Parenting isn't just about instinct. It's about learning. New research shows that fathers' brains undergo similar changes as mothers' brains to prepare them for parenthood. This means that spending quality time with their new babies can help fathers develop strong paternal instincts. Paternity leave is a free brain-training program for dads 🧠 Encouraging more men to take paternity leave can help them become more involved in their children's lives. This can have a positive impact on families and promote gender equality! Read the full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/eXvyiU8T #PaternityLeave #CaringAndCareer #PeopleManagement
