I have had the privilege of being Graduate Recruitment partner for the last 4 years. Now it is time to hand over the mantle to the brilliant Jemma Pollock. Here we are in our Graduate Recruitment uniform! After many years qualified 🥴 I never forget just how hard it is to secure a training contract. I am in constant awe of those CVs that come through the door about the achievements of those entering our profession and just how much they pack in! Nonetheless it is tougher than ever. For those that have not secured a training contract - keep going and importantly be yourself. For those who have secured a training contract or are about to qualify. My top tips: 1. Be yourself - easier said than done when at the beginning of your career but it pays dividends and is much more enjoyable. 2. Don’t sweat the small stuff. 3. Everyone makes mistakes at all levels of an organisation. It may make you feel sick but DO tell someone and don’t try to rectify it on your own. More often than not it can be dealt with and easily remedied. 4. Do what you enjoy - find an interest. You have to work for a long time so ensuring that you enjoy your job and it remains challenging is worth its weight in gold! 5. Build networks and connections that will help you now and in the future. Sharing experiences good, bad and ugly with peers makes life easier and you learn a lot.

Job Interview Follow Up 3-4 Business Days When should you follow up after an interview? Follow up three to four business days with the hiring manager after your interview. Now I'm assuming you've already sent them a thank you email the day of the interview. So after that follow up three to four business days after your interview and make sure you're providing them some kind of value.   When you follow up don't just say "I'm checking in", that's a waste of their time. Provide some value or insight in the follow up.  For example share a story from your work history, a work history resource, or any number of things that demonstrate your ability! Once or twice during my own job search I wrote a LinkedIn post about a strategy or a tactic from my work history that related well to the job I was interviewing for. I sent the post to the hiring manager as one of my special follow-up points.  They read the post and appreciated it. Job Search - Winning Numbers During my job search, I was focused on quality, but also on volume. And I was applying to high dozens or low hundreds of jobs every single week. And that really helped me to make sure I had job interviews the following week. Usually when you apply for jobs in one week, you get interviews the next week.   So, I wanted to encourage you because I saw a post today on LinkedIn where someone was saying that they were discouraged because they had applied for 200 jobs over a few months. And I would sometimes apply for 200 jobs in one week. So, I think I want to just kind of encourage everybody that part of your job search challenge may not be that you're not marketable, but you're not in front of enough people.   You get a couple of benefits out of applying for a lot of jobs. First, you get more and more polished and second, there's just more opportunity as well. So, apply to high dozens or low hundreds of jobs every single week. Getting Executive Help    You'd be surprised if you reach out to an executive on your job search, they will likely help you. When you apply for a job, reach out to the most senior executive in that department. For example, if you're applying for a human resources job, then reach out to the chief human resources officer. Find their phone number and leave them a voicemail. Also, send them an email and a message through LinkedIn.      You can reach out when you apply for a job or reach out when you see a posting that piques your interest in the job.     The point is for you to be BOLD and bet on yourself! So put yourself out there and reach out to executives. You will be shocked at how often they will help you.
