“Public Engagement is an attitude.” That’s a guideline we refer to a lot when encouraging researchers to engage outside of the comfort zones of a lab. No matter the scale of activity - a huge event or personal conversations; it’s their tunes that create impactful exchanges. As we have been experiencing recently with one of our projects: Since 2023 we are a partner within the project Zukunft findet Stadt. Hochschulnetzwerk für ein resilientes Berlin, co-investigating modes of knowledge exchange and sustainable #transfer. Last month was super busy, and one of the many activities was participating at CityLAB Berlin #Kiezlabor at HTW-campus with a workshop on Building Engagement Projects, and a Discussion on #openscience and #publicengagement. Though small in size compared to other events, we had such inspiring exchanges! Or was it because of it? In trainings we are often asked “How to start a mutually meaningful conversation?”, or “What does it take to be open to collaborate?” While a simple answer to the first question might be that just asking this question often starts a conversation by itself, the latter is more complex. And often enough seems to lead to more disagreements than productivity. To keep having conversations about having conversations is not easy, and often enough does not feel comfortable, but taking that time usually pays of in the long-run. We love to get your perspective: 🍕What are important ingrediencies to diverse collaboration? 🔃How to balance being open and offering safe spaces for exchange? 🚥 As a researcher: How / Where / With whom have you had meaningful exchanges out of your comfort zone – or where does collaboration meet its limits in the real world? 👀 What are your experiences? Let us know in the comments! Special thanks to Jana Wendler, Sonja Hammann, Julia Brandt, Lena Simon, Ella Frühwirt and Carolin Clausnitzer with the team from CityLab for co-creating the spaces - looking forward to picking up on our conversations in the future! #ZukunftFindetStadt is a project of Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT), Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin, Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB) and Katholische Hochschule für Sozialwesen Berlin (KHSB) as part of the #InnovativeHochschule funding initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research #bmbf If you want to find out more about #ZukunftFindetStadt go to https://lnkd.in/d5abh2GJ PS: #Kiezlabor keeps travelling in Berlin; check out their schedule if it's coming to your Kiez, too https://lnkd.in/e2JyhDTN

But at TU/e, collaboration is such an integral part of our culture that we never really talk about it. But in this article, we will. Empowering innovation: the kicking off the second smart solution labs! We are thrilled to share the exciting news of the launch of not one, but two innovative Smart Solution Labs, marking the following milestone within the Interreg VI Smart Solution Labs project! These labs serve as collaborative platforms, uniting eight motivated students from both Germany and the Netherlands, representing esteemed institutions such as Hogeschool Saxion, FH Münster, and Westfälische Hochschule. Our collective goal? To ignite innovation and devise ingenious solutions tailored for businesses operating within the cross-border region. With a diverse blend of talents and expertise, our student cohorts have formed two dynamic, intercultural teams, each primed to tackle challenges head-on and drive forward the frontiers of innovation. On Friday, we commenced this exciting journey with an inspiring innovation training session hosted at the rock'n'popmuseum in Gronau. Here, we not only emphasized the importance of team cohesion but also set the stage for what promises to be a fruitful and collaborative endeavor. With the innovation Coach Markus Schwering students tackled the teambuilding challenge of StackMan, as seen in the video. Next on our agenda are the eagerly anticipated kick-off events scheduled at bellanet GmbH and Nijdeken Frees en- Graveertechniek B.V. this week. It's an incredible opportunity for our students to translate their theoretical knowledge into practical applications, working hand in hand with these esteemed companies to bring about tangible real-world impact. If you are interested in joining us and being part as a paid student assistant, make sure to visit our website: https://lnkd.in/epWGskm3 This project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the following Interreg partners are participating: the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and the Province of Overijssel on the Dutch side and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate and Energy NRW on the German side. #SmartSolutionLabs #EmpoweringInnovationBeyondBorders #InterregVI #euinmyregion Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft für den Kreis Borken mbH Verenigde Maakindustrie Oost Hogeschool Saxion FH Münster Westfälische Hochschule Interreg Deutschland-Nederland

Wish list for 2024: the formation of new spaces of collaboration, the cultivation of radical cooperation and imagination, the contemplation of reality from a viewpoint as new and complete as possible (including the knowledge of spaces and people yet unknown) and the activation of cycles of action-learning, based on the participation of various interest groups. "elkarlanerako espazio berriak eratzea, errotikako lankidetza eta irudimena lantzea, errealitateari ahalik eta ikuspegi berri eta osatuenarekin erreparatzea (guretzat ezezagunak diren gune eta pertsonak ere ezagutuz) eta ekintza-ikaskuntza zikloak aktibatzea, askotariko interes taldeen jardunean oinarrituta." Is Leuven bragging? ... And why does stad Leuven place itself in a broader Leuven Innovation Region? ... Leuven MindGate checked and quantified it and then confidently crafted an energetic story, precipitated in a powerful video that we got the first look at yesterday at the membership event. Why the Beyond is so strong: ⇰ it's looking over the wall: learning from each other and making each other stronger, forging partnerships inside and outside the Leuven ecosystem, because no one gets ahead on their own anymore; cross-pollination you know. 📡 it is looking beyond tomorrow: everything evolves so fast, so futures thinking and learning to put together scenarios to respond to changes (and uncertainty) 💡 it's harnessing creativity: thinking beyond the familiar patterns of thinking, innovation and creativity is in the dna of our community, and that's not by accident right! 🚀 Even more eagerness to be part of and collaborate! 🤲 And indeed don't forget: join us! #innovation #collaboration #ecosystem #creativity #crosspolination #diversity #community #futuresthinking #futuregeneration Jan Paesen Cédric Piette Marieke Sopers Katrien Rycken Patricia Schoolmeesters Mohamed Ridouani Geertrui Vanloo Jos Clijsters Bruno Delepierre Fredo De Smet Sofie Delvaux Steven Cosyn Kristel Gooris Yasmien Vranken Lalynn Wadera Thomas Van Oppens

As the virtual or hybrid event has quietly faded out from conversations among many event organizers, it is important to be reminded that to have virtual or hybrid options at your event/conference is not just a debate about whether it provides better values or not, but because it helps with broader reach and then potentially create bring more inclusivity to your community. This is specifically important for the academic world as we are facing decline on next generation interests into the research field and surge needs of cross-country collaboration on study. #event #hybridevents #inclusivity

A skilled and driven communications director with extensive experience developing and delivering strategies for high-profile and complex organisations; including award winning crisis and reputation management delivery
Interesting article in today's Sunday Times by Jon Yeomans on how the UK has the potential to be the world tech leader. HERE EAST on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is quite rightly highlighted as an example of how innovation should be done. Two take outs - 1) This is one of the biggest legacy success stories from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Most media centres are knocked down when the last Gold is handed out. Now other host cities come to the Park to see how our media centre proudly hosts an innovation campus to rival any other, bringing new opportunities to east Londoners and growing the UK's tech reputation. 2) Universities are key. Talent, research, innovation, time, space, risk taking. The companies around them benefit hugely. At the Park our legacy planning recognised this. The 10,000 students we have on the Park at UCL University of the Arts London and London campuses of Loughborough University and Teesside University and others have made a game changing environment. Meanwhile, our work in setting up SHIFT to help push this to the next level is moving the innovation story to a new chapter. The UK got London 2012 right, it got legacy right and our innovation push on the Park and focus on universities means we are well placed to get it right in this second decade after the Games.
