#TecnilaboPeople - Spacelab D1 mission marked several firsts in European human spaceflight. Together with NASA crew members, three ESA astronauts served as payload specialists (science astronauts) on the first spaceflight with a crew of eight. Franco Severina, Senior Technical Sales Engineer at BioAir SpA, helped build the Clean Room where the Spacelab was assembled and today shares the significance of this mission: "The Spacelab missions - one of which, the D1 on Challenger flight STS-61A, carried aboard the Spacelab built and assembled in 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐂 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 - became important to all of us for at least four good reasons: 🌌 They expanded the Shuttle's ability to conduct on-orbit science. 🤝 They provided a marvellous opportunity and example of a large international joint venture between the United States and Europe involving government, industry and science. 🧫 The European effort provided the world with a 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 several years before it would have been possible with funding from the US alone. 🚀 And finally, they provided Europe with the systems development, facilities and management experience necessary to move into the exclusive manned space flight arena. This was another important achievement in the 55-year-long BioAir history in the application of 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝". #TecnilaboEducational
