What does revitalization mean to you?
Would you swim in your city's river? Well we in Dublin do, with the annual Liffey Swim. But would it pass the Paris Olympic swim test? One of our biggest sources of river pollutants is run off from city streets. How about we turn the city into a green sponge with riverside planted areas to intercept run off? Remove traffic from the Quays. Just do it. Fixed floating islands to filter pollutants, oxygenate water and return nature to the river? Access to the river for city swimmers. It has been done by Urban Rivers in Chicago and there are big plans in Berlin Flussbad Berlin e.V. . It means major investment in our water infrastructure but just imagine. Reconsidering how we deal with water will be a defining challenge for cities and urban settlements in the 21st century. In order to begin to tackle this challenge, we need inspiration. Here's one example no too far away:

Happy National Road Trip Day! We have several summer road trips planned for this summer so Andrew can attend college soccer ID sessions. We will visit Chicago, IL; Tulsa, OK; Louisville, KY; and Akin, SC. These trips will also help him cross off at least 2 more states from his bucket list of eating ice cream in every state. I think at the end of the summer he will have crossed off 28 states. Do you love road trips? Share your favorite road trip memories and destinations in the comments below! #NationalRoadTripDay #AdventureAwaits #RoadTripDay #RoadTrip #MakeMemories #WorkLifeBalance

Angeles Mountain Partners is eyeing a significant overhaul of the vintage Mt. Waterman ski resort in the Angeles National Forest. Their ambitious plan includes exclusive access for a limited membership on prime ski days, complemented by improvements like glamping and snowmaking. However, the U.S. Forest Service has expressed concerns regarding exclusivity and public access. As the proposal progresses, the balance between private and public use remains a critical point of discussion. Cyclists of the Tyne Valley - I attended a ‘presentation’ of proposals for the suggested works intended to encourage wider use by cyclists between Hexham and Corbridge at the Wentworth Leisure Centre at 10.00 Friday 12th July 2024. I asked whether this was a follow up to the earlier ‘consultations’ on the proposals which I also attended and contributed to, and was informed that the ‘consultation’ has now finished and these are now the detailed proposals. I’m afraid I was bitterly disappointed by this as it seems to me - as a local pedestrian, cyclist, public transport user and motorist - that the proposals represent a serious missed opportunity and consequently a potential waste of funding and hindrance to eventual real improvements. The staff at the presentation were geared up to explain the detailed design arrived at - and the ‘rationale’ of the funding (Levelling up?) but I could not do other than respond that it shows a serious lack of ambition. The cycle ways created from the mouth of the Tyne to Prudhoe Riverside Park and Ovingham are very good indeed and I believe the parties involved in this exercise should consider those routes as the model for improvements between Hexham and Corbridge. The tyne routes downstream from Prudhoe clearly encourage much wider use by cyclists of all abilities. Instead we in Hexham and Corbridge are ‘presented with’ - - road markings on the urban part of the route in Hexham (which in my view will not help nervous cyclists feel any better about the proximity of motor vehicles and seem to encourage new conflicts with pedestrians where foot and cycleways will ’share’) - traffic lights at the road bridge over the Devil’s Water on the A695 (which in my view will inconvenience all road users and cause cyclists to lose momentum in order to stop at the lights and also have to accelerate from stop alongside the moving traffic, when the lights go green. Motorists will of course be aggravated by the new delay) ...Then there will be the ongoing cost of the traffic lights in perpetuity. Continues ….

Check out my latest article on trekfortrevor.org where I provide 5 tips for traversing the San Jacinto mountains on the Pacific Crest Trail.
In this article, Trek for Trevor Vice President and PCT thru-hiker Russell Hepton discusses tips and tricks to stay safe when hiking in the San Jacinto mountains of southern California, especially when snow and ice are present. Russell crossed paths with Trevor during their attempted thru-hike of the PCT in 2020. He exited the trail at the I-10 overpass just north of Idyllwild due to concerns over COVID-19, but returned for a successful southbound attempt in 2022. Thanks Russ for your commitment to keeping hikers safe with an educational article about one of the most dangerous sections of the entire PCT! https://lnkd.in/ggQS8wJa #HikerSafety #TrekforTrevor #TrekSmart #TrekSafe #PCT #SanJacinto
