It's 10 days until International Women's Day! Here are three ideas on how you can invest in women 🌠 1) Give power back to women experiencing domestic violence by becoming a HER Board sponsor. But we still have a long way to go. We believe that change starts here. It starts with us. It starts with a conversation. Despite waves of activism like the #metoo moment, women continue to suffer from gender based violence worldwide. Be it gender apartheid in Afghanistan or horrific attacks in Calcutta, the challenges women face are not bound by geography or socioeconomics. In fact, one need not look farther than home. Canada is no different and women’s rights have been diminishing following suit from our neighbors in the south. Anti-abortion centers exist here in Toronto masked as “support” centers for pregnant women and we have politicians/ law makers actively working to support them. Toronto Rape Crisis Centre (TRCC) aims to provide anti-oppressive, feminist peer support to survivors of sexual violence, of all genders and identities, through counselling, group support, education, advocacy, and activism. The existence of organizations like the TRCC is a testament to the long-standing need for support services in the face of violence against women. TRCC was established in 1974 ….and I envision a future where we no longer need an organization like TRCC in my lifetime. When women are safe, our children are safe. Many of the conversations about #climatefinance at #SIDS4 have affirmed the work of Global Fund for Women. Private investment in poorer countries is limited, the global climate finance mechanisms are largely inaccessible and don't reach the masses, and global financial institutions are not designed to serve these populations. While we continue to demand and work towards system change, we also recognise the urgency of meeting the most vulnerable populations where they are, and providing the resources immediately required to resource their work and reduce their vulnerability. This is our current approach to providing inclusive, just finance for climate action.
