Just wrapped up an incredible youth advocacy training session on Ocean-Climate Connection with Armon Alex, co-founder of the Gulf of Mexico Youth Climate Summit! Here are some powerful takeaways that resonated with and shaped my own perspectives on climate advocacy: 💡 Beyond Carbon Tunnel Vision: We explored how climate solutions intersect with multiple challenges - from fast fashion to mental health. It's about rethinking consumption patterns that fit tomorrow's needs! 💡 Power of Local Action: The most effective climate solutions emerge when we think globally but act locally. Success rates soar when frontline communities lead the conversation and shape what victory looks like in their areas. 💡 Intersectional Approach: Environmental challenges don't exist in isolation. They're deeply intertwined with social, economic, and political issues. Creating a just and equitable future means considering all these dimensions. 💡 Indigenous Wisdom: A key learning was the importance of authentic indigenous inclusion - not just as consultants, but as integral voices in shaping solutions. Being a lifelong learner means incorporating non-exploitive actions and ensuring all vital perspectives are at the table. 💡 Empathetic Leadership: The most impactful advocacy comes from genuinely listening and empathizing. It's about telling stories that connect people to the problems. Inspired by spending an afternoon with our BrightWolves delegation at Love Tomorrow, on Boom's beautiful Tomorrowland premises. Original talk by Milan Meyberg on environmental AI, a system to let nature communicate through AI avatars, and give nature literally a seat at the table. Will my kids be having a conversation with the forest nearby soon? - Dirk De Wachter on change & uncertainty, and how we eventually all crave connection. And why the capacity to love is even more important than being loved. - A session on Doughnut Economics and how businesses can adopt regenerative and distributive solutions. How can we design businesses to unlock transformative action? - Embracing Africa to enter the future. Did you know that out of the 10 economic growers in 2024, 6 are african Nations? That Africa contains 30% of worlds critical minerals and 70% of cobalt reserves? That the continent will double its population the next 25 years? With 1 on 3 of the worlds youth living in Africa by 2050? It's satisfying to see that at BrightWolves we are ticking the boxes; with multiple significant business and digital transformations we're currently supporting at our clients, a growing sustainability practice, and a fully sold out team in our South African offices in Capetown and Johannesburg.
