It’s vacation time and many of you will plan to go to your village during summer vacation. As a student you can provide some great opportunity to make a powerful impact for your rural community. Here are some ideas: 1. *Organize Workshops*: Host workshops on topics like basic computer skills, financial literacy, or sustainable farming techniques to empower community members with valuable knowledge. 2. *Environmental Initiatives*: Start a community clean-up campaign, tree planting drive, or recycling program to promote environmental sustainability and beautify the village. 3. *Health and Wellness Programs*: Conduct health awareness sessions, provide basic medical check-ups, or organize fitness activities to promote overall well-being in the community. 4. *Education Support*: Offer tutoring or mentorship programs for school children, assist with homework, or organize book donation drives to improve access to education. 5. *Skill Development*: Teach vocational skills such as carpentry, sewing, or cooking to equip community members with valuable skills for employment or entrepreneurship. 6. *Community Gardens*: Start a community garden to promote food security, encourage healthy eating habits, and foster a sense of community involvement. 7. *Cultural Preservation*: Organize events to celebrate and preserve the village's cultural heritage through traditional music, dance, crafts, or storytelling. 8. *Infrastructure Improvement*: Identify and address pressing infrastructure needs such as repairing roads, building sanitation facilities, or installing clean water sources. 9. *Youth Empowerment*: Engage with local youth through sports programs, leadership workshops, or entrepreneurial initiatives to inspire and empower the next generation. 10. *Community Engagement*: Facilitate discussions and forums to encourage community participation in decision-making processes and foster a sense of ownership and unity. Natalie Reider, our Senior Vice President of Community Operations, spoke at Bisnow’s Annual Conference on a panel with Alicia Bramble TCS,HCCP,SHCM, CHAM, Raymond Salem, Phillip Forrester, Jonas Bordo and Mark, moderated by Cynthia Piana. The panel focused on enhancing operations, understanding modern residents, and elevating the rental experience through innovation, future-proofing, and thoughtful design that fosters community engagement. They also discussed the importance of providing after-school spaces for working families, navigating post-COVID rental challenges, and improving access to rental assistance programs to support residents. Natalie shared insights on creating amenity spaces tailored to residents’ preferences and highlighted impactful initiatives, including the preschools and health clinics at Finamore Place and Wesley Village in Orange County, which address critical community needs. #JamboreeHousing #BuildingForGood 

Important things about Co-Haty project

We should all be able to head down to our local park and soak up the one week(?) of UK summer sunshine (or the all year round fresh air)...But the reality is for over 1/3 of people across Bristol and Bath that they can't. That's 200,000 people who are prevented from accessing their local green space due to barriers such as physical accessibility, personal safety, or mental health. These kind of barriers disproportionately effect: -people who have a disability -unpaid carers -women and girls -minority ethnic groups -people living in low income or disadvantaged areas Having worked for Your Park Bristol and Bath for over a year now on their Roots to Wellbeing programme - a green social prescribing programme offering free weekly outdoor mental health and wellbeing groups in Bristol and Bath parks - it's really clear how huge the impact of being able and welcome to go and enjoy your local green space has for our health. That's why it feels so important that our local green spaces are made accessible to everyone, so we can all experience the benefits. Your Park has launched a fundraiser campaign to improve access to our green spaces - called Reimagining Parks. This campaign involves plans to redesign two parks in Bristol and Bath. One exemplar park in South Bristol to be made fully accessible for all disabilities, and one exemplar park in Bath to be re-designed by a woman. The campaign will also help fund various accessible park activities in every neighbourhood across the two cities and last (but not least!) expand our Roots to Wellbeing (nature-based mental health focus) programme to support more individuals. Did you know that the 580+ parks and green spaces across Bristol & Bath are not inclusively designed? This significantly impacts access for Disabled people, carers, women and girls, minority ethnic groups, and people in low-income areas with at least 200,000 people struggling to use them or locked out completely. Our Reimagining Parks campaign aims to start leading the change. We need to raise £30,000 to kickstart this work. We've teamed-up with Aviva who are DOUBLING every donation! Whenever I talk about the work we do at Women's Wilderness, I'm often sharing the importance of our mission, which centers around reducing barriers to nature-based engagement for women, girls, and nonbinary youth and adults. While we offer rock climbing, day hikes, retreats, after school programs and then some, it's about so much more than merely 'taking girls into the outdoors.' Our programming – all of which is infused with social-emotional skill building and trauma-informed best practices – involves a host of unseen hands, as well as a web of funding that allow us to do what we do. One of the main threads in that web is Colorado's Outdoor Equity Grant Program (OEGP). Thanks to lawmakers who worked to set aside a portion of revenue from the Colorado Lottery, many businesses and nonprofits like ours were able to fund programs that helped underrepresented youth gain access to outdoor experiences they might not have had otherwise. To be sure, OEGP funding is a major source of support for our youth programming, but the fund itself needs more funds. Last year OEGP distributed $3 million in outdoor equity grants, but there was a $21 million demand across the state. I have the privilege of being part of a coalition that looks for ways to grow this critical source of funding so that more organizations can meet the needs of their communities in every corner of Colordo. We may know that getting outside is good for our physical and mental health, but too few of us know what we can do to ensure more of our underserved youth have access, too. According to the USDA’S Economic Research Service, in 2023 consumers in the United States spent an average of 11.2 percent of their disposable income (income after taxes) on food. The proportion of income spent on food by those living in poverty, without any additional federal assistance is very different.  In the eight states that make up Head Start Region IV, a family of four, earning 100% of the FPG (federal poverty guidelines) spends between 30.4% to 50.2% of their income on food.

Your Park's Reimagining Parks campaign isn't just about adding a fresh coat of paint or installing accessible play equipment. It's about creating spaces that serve the real needs of our individual and complex communities and neighbourhoods. Why do I care? Not because I simply work for the charity but because I grew up in an isolated location in disadvantage. Going outdoors was my saviour. Parks are more than just green patches for nature, but vital centres for social connection and personal wellbeing for people who often have no garden or other access to open, natural space. Parks are where families or friends gather for simple things like picnics and play, where innovative green infrastructure tackles climate challenges head-on, and where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their background or abilities. However if this is the case for you, please know that unfortunately not everyone can enjoy this. This isn't just wishful thinking, it's a roadmap for ACTION after decades of requests. By getting involved and sharing expertise, we can turn this vision into tangible improvements that benefit us all. Let's roll up our sleeves and work together to transform Bristol & Bath's parks into vibrant, inclusive spaces that enhance our quality of life and leave a lasting legacy for future generations. #nature #Parks #csr #reimaginingparks
