How can we nurture more innovative ideas? A question discussed last friday at Techarenan during the session "The Role of Universities in the Innovation Ecosystem." Firstly, it is clear that for continued innovation, attracting and retaining top talent is crucial. We need to take care of the talent that want to stay and work in Sweden. Secondly, there is a need to keep funding ventures and also continuing to fund entrepreneurial activities that ignite inspiration and ideas. Ideas that can revolutionize and change the status quo, and creating a better world. Thirdly, as the Minister for Education, Mats Persson, put it, "We need to aim higher.". By funding these activities we inspire individuals to realize their visionary ideas. Something that the Vice-chancellor of Uppsala University Anders Hagfeldt highlighted as essential. He underlined that storytelling is not just a tool, but also a catalyst for innovation through inspiration. Drivhuset Uppsala has a long history of working with inspiration, developing ideas, and creating a community that is promoting creativity and entrepreneurship. 🚀 Exciting Announcement! 🚀 I'm thrilled to share that my latest paper, co-authored with Dr. Assaf Amit, has been accepted for publication in Research Policy, a top-quality journal included in the FT50 list! 📚 Title: "From Startup Nation to Open Innovation Nation: The Evolution of Open Innovation Activities within the Israeli Entrepreneurial Ecosystem" Abstract: Our research explores the fascinating journey of Israel's entrepreneurial ecosystem, highlighting three distinct phases of open innovation from 1993 to 2022. We observed a significant evolution, from sporadic activities in the early years to widespread and systematized adoption of open innovation today. Our findings emphasize the critical role of established firms in fostering a collaborative dynamic between startups and corporates, transforming Israel into a global hub for innovation. Highlights: Bridging open innovation literature with the entrepreneurial ecosystem framework enhances understanding of innovation dynamics. Analysis of open innovation in Israel's entrepreneurial ecosystem reveals three distinct phases from 1993 to 2022. A multi-source data methodology provides comprehensive insights into the evolution of open innovation. Increased collaboration between startups and corporates has redefined innovation dynamics in Israel. Thursday on Capitol Hill, I announced the National Inclusive Innovation Strategy. We've been working to this strategy for the past two years, expanding inclusivity and participation within the USPTO, for those practicing before us, and, importantly, for U.S. innovators, entrepreneurs and creators. As we think about achieving the United Nations #SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), we must feel a sense of urgency for not only advancing tech, AI and innovation policy that encourages innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and fair and active competition, but also that opens the doors more widely for all to participate. #SCIENCEinnovates As a prelude to SCIENCE Innovation Summit on June 6, I will be spotlighting our distinguished speakers using this hashtag. First up is Christian Vintergaard, who has served as CEO of Fonden for Entreprenørskab (Foundation for Entrepreneurship) since 2010. Additionally, from 2018 to 2023, he held the position of CEO for the Danish Technology Pact. When asked about his key messages for the SCIENCE Innovation Summit, Christian answers: “First and foremost, I look forward to participating and sharing my vision on how we can promote more startups through increased innovation among students and researchers. In my opinion, we should not perceive research and education as opposites to commercial exploitation, but rather as integrated elements with the potential to create cohesive solutions.” We look very much forward to Christian sharing insights drawn from his extensive experience in entrepreneurship, new technology, business strategy, economic growth, corporate governance, policy, and more.
