From colorful parades to the symbolic raising of the flag, many of our employees across the globe stood together in solidarity and #pride this month. Thank you to our PRIDE Employee Resource Group and all who showed their support. 🌈
How can we move past the intergenerational gaps in our rainbow communities, highlighted by the events leading up to the 2019 pride parade? I offer some thoughts in this post that follows on from my last.
What do you think?

We mustn't dismiss entry-level activism as ‘not enough'. People need to start somewhere, and we need multiple options that are inclusive and can help everyone engage in activism activities that suit their lifestyle.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! Showing support for the LGBTQIA+ community helps your customers, partners, and employees feel valued and understood. Transparent values foster a supportive community. But I encourage you to take a moment to ask yourself if you are engaging in performative allyship?
What is performative allyship?
Performative allyship occurs when an organization seeks to appear supportive of marginalized groups by calling for or creating allies within its ranks without actually supporting the development of those allies or enabling them to take meaningful actions that result in real change. It is a type of allyship that prioritizes optics over substantial change, which can have detrimental effects in the workplace for both organizations and individuals.
During June, performative allyship is at its peak, commonly referred to as rainbow washing. It's easy to change your logo's background to the rainbow flag or share a RuPaul quote on social media, but that's not what we're talking about when we say allyship.
Even if your business has nothing to do with the LGBT+ community, there are still plenty of ways for you to be an effective ally this month:
#1 Stop Talking About Yourself - Pride month exists so that the LGBT+ community’s voices and stories are heard. If you want to be effective, use your platform to amplify those voices.
#2 Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is - Putting money towards supporting the LGBT+ community is one of the most genuine ways to display allyship. Pro Tip - Don’t go boasting about your donation and how good of a company you are for it. Try your best to share the names of organizations and put a spotlight on their actions.
#3 Display Allyship In The Workplace Year Round - If your team doesn’t feel accepted and supported, then your Pride-centered marketing is genuinely performative.
#4 Be Transparent About Your Business - Sharing your stats will pressure other companies to follow suit. This kind of demonstration is genuine, action-based, and effective allyship.
Performative allyship creates a false sense of progress and can perpetuate inequality. It isn’t just harmful to marginalized groups within your organization; it’s also hurting your bottom line. To learn more check out this video to learn more about Rainbow washing.

This Memorial Day, we reflect on the origins of this solemn occasion, honoring the lives lost in battles throughout history. From its inception in the aftermath of the Civil War to its global significance today, Memorial Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and justice.
As we pay tribute to the fallen, let's also consider the importance of integrating Memorial Day into our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Recognizing the diverse ways individuals experience this holiday fosters a sense of belonging and understanding in the workplace. Let's honor the past while building a more inclusive future.

This year 16 Days of Activism Event "Respecting Youth Voices to enable change" in collaboration with Feifei Curiosity and supported by Respect Victoria focussed on young multicultural communities from the Casey municipality to showcase what respect means to them through arts learning, expression and creation, encouraging the wider community to respect one another with an intersectional lens.
We created non-judgemental and creative space where participants can safely explore and express what respect means for each other. Accept and embrace everyone's diverse lived-experiences.
Participants and Artists used dance, poetry, and photography as powerful art forms to connect and engage participants through shared emotions, relatable stories, and create an inclusive and welcoming space for learning, growth and acceptance. As somebody mention "its is about relationship with myself", the more respectful and beautiful you feel it resontes in your work and filters down in your relationships.
Thank you all the people who engaged and enjoyed the event.
Here is a beautiful video for you to enjoy! Leave your reflections and comments on how you felt?
