Shaping Our Community (and Spending Some City Money)! As someone who’s always been fascinated by the power of community, I have to share the story of when the City of Amsterdam rolled out the Buurtbudget initiative for our neighborhood, Burt. Imagine this: a city giving us the chance to submit our own project ideas and then letting us decide where €500,000 should go! As someone who writes a lot about how important community is for our well-being, this is my kind of democracy! You see, I believe that when we come together to shape our shared spaces, amazing things happen - not to mention, it’s a great excuse to get creative. Whether it's adding green roofs to sheds, or setting up more spaces to gather (because who doesn’t love a good public bench?), Buurtbudget is about more than just money - it’s about building a neighborhood we’re proud of. What I love most about this initiative is that it reminds us we’re all part of something bigger. Our ideas matter. Our voices matter. And together, we get to build the spaces we want to live in. 💚 Let’s see what happens next, Burt! Why Community Participation is Critical in Redevelopment - "And what you could miss out on if you don't!" In any community, the decisions about redevelopment—whether it’s infrastructure improvements, housing, or business support—directly impact the people who live and work there. Yet, without active participation, these plans may not fully reflect the community's needs or culture. Here’s why it’s important to engage: Missed Opportunities: By not participating, communities might miss out on valuable programs that could improve housing, businesses, and public safety. Loss of Identity: Without local input, redevelopment plans risk diluting the unique character and history of the neighborhood. Lack of Buy-In: Projects without community support often face challenges during implementation, leading to friction and slower progress. The CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) relies on local input to make impactful changes, but if the community remains disengaged, it’s harder to address longstanding issues. Whether it’s attending local meetings, volunteering, or simply staying informed, your involvement makes a difference. Together, we can build a future that benefits everyone. Get involved and help shape a brighter, safer, and more prosperous community. Isn’t that what you want? #CommunityDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #CivicEngagement #Redevelopment #Leadership #Dunbar #CommuniTEA

Today is National Housing Day! And while I am so grateful and blessed to have a safe and welcoming place to call home, not all are so fortunate. According to the Nov. 2023 from the Office of the Federal Housing Advocate, we need to create 4.4 million permanently affordable and accessible homes to restore affordability to Canada’s housing system. With inflation, rising costs of construction, limited government funding and a heavy reliance on non profits to create solutions - the situation is dire. We are all 1 degree of separation from someone who is, or who has, experienced housing insecurity - our neighbours, our friends, our loved ones, our colleagues - and this social crisis requires an all play. At Bespoke Social Profit Solutions Inc. we've coined the term P4 Partners because social impact and transformation lies at the intersection of interests, abilities, expertise and resources of public, private, philanthropic communities along with non profit providers working in lock step together. We've also started a non profit, Partners for Affordable Housing that is working towards collective investment, collective voice and collective knowledge to put a dent in the housing crisis. A big shout out to: the many who are creating new and innovative solutions to open doors; the partners and supporters of our efforts Town of Canmore, Government of Alberta, Maxim Olshevsky, LIVNG by Astra Property, Kristopher Mathieu, Canmore Community Housing Corporation, Alberta Real Estate Foundation, Vancity Community Foundation, Calvert Home Mortgage Investment Corporation and the Sarah and Carey Lavine Foundation; and our board and advisors for your commitment, your expertise and your sage advice. If you're curious to read about some of what's happening at Partners - check out the Social Profit Periodical. https://lnkd.in/gVvCwtgD
