Today marks my last day in Korea - a whirlwind trip from Friday to Tuesday. Despite the tight schedule and brutal jet lag, I managed to meet with Sungchul Park for an engaging conversation about value-based care beyond the US. Interestingly, I've had multiple discussions on this topic over the past few weeks. This sudden burst of similar conversations makes me wonder if value-based care (VBC) is finally gaining real momentum outside the US. The countries considering or experimenting with VBC share some commonalities. They tend to be developed nations with rapidly aging populations. Korea is no exception; in fact, it's at the forefront of this demographic shift. With a shrinking tax-paying population and consequently decreasing social security funds, the transition from pay-per-volume to pay-per-value seems like a natural progression. To some extent, I hope the VBC implementation failures in the US can serve as valuable case studies for other countries - and for the US itself. We first need to understand why certain approaches have worked and why others have failed. As other countries follow a similar path, many VBC-related datasets from the US may become increasingly valuable worldwide. The health topic section on the OECD - OCDE website (https://lnkd.in/e9R85UXB) reflects this trend. While VBC isn't explicitly mentioned, you can sense its underlying theme across various subtopics. It's an exciting time for healthcare globally, and I'm eager to see how different countries adapt and innovate in their approach to value-based care.

🌏 Tackling Diabetes in SEA with Danish Innovation Another fulfilling week of fostering relationship with both Danish organisations and stakeholders in Singapore🇩🇰🇸🇬 📊 Here are facts about the state of our health: 👩⚕️Diabetes treatment varies in Southeast Asia. Some countries have robust healthcare systems, which sees prevention, diagnosis and treatment readily available while others have varying access to treatment within a province. Singapore has the former. Yet, it is estimated that there will be an increase of 50% in diabetic residents above 40 by 2030, up from 400,000 in 2023📈 \ https://lnkd.in/eaW_EbBB. Over the last decade, measures by Singapore government in its fight against diabetes include: 🔹 advocating and educating its population to take onus of one’s health, 🔹 strengthening the healthcare infrastructure to increase accessibility and affordability of treatment for chronic illnesses, 🔹 access to free exercise programs, 🔹 mandating the labelling of drinks based on their sugar and saturated fat content. 📆 World Diabetes Day falls on 14 November 2024. The battle against diabetes must continue not only in Singapore but also around the world. 🤝The Novo Nordisk team shared with Ambassador Jakob Brix Tange and Deputy Head of Mission Rasmus Bjørnø how their organisations tackle the above alarming health issues. They are dedicated to contribute to local communities in Singapore and Southeast Asia. As a responsible Danish organisation, Novo Nordisk looks internally at upholding a good work culture for employees; externally, how it can bring positive impacts to communities, value-chains and mother earth (turning waste to furnishing)! 🌱♻️ If you are a Danish health and medtech organisation and would like to explore market opportunities in Singapore, please contact Chin Ee CHAI, Senior Commercial Advisor.
