Denali Why continue to delete questions instead of having an open dialogue about seeking the truth? I asked how this material being dredged from these municipal plants is being tested to ensure we aren't simply transferring concentrated pollution from wastewater treatment onto land and into groundwater through runoff. City of Cartersville The buildup and collection of this concentrated material was born out of compliance with the #cleanwateract which regulates the discharge of pollutants into navigable waters, establishing #wastewater standards for industries and setting limits on #pollutants released into water bodies. That is why it was necessary to remove these solids in the first place. The Clean Water Act addresses pollution from both point sources (e.g., factories, sewage treatment plants) and ALSO nonpoint sources (e.g., #runoff from agriculture, urban areas), aiming to control and reduce pollution from various sources. Now in the name of preventing landfill capacity issues, we are land applying 15000 tons of what exactly? I can think of other dilemmas communities all across the south are facing and that is impaired waterways. Think about that on #WorldWaterDay #pfas #pollution #phosphorus #ammonia #heavymetals
On this #WorldWaterDay, we are thinking about our work with hundreds of water utilities across the U.S. The City of Cartersville, Georgia is a great example of how we partner with municipalities to protect water quality, benefit the land, and preserve landfill space. Special thanks to Denali's Steve Hall for his collaboration with Cartersville and many other utilities in the Southeast! Staten Island’s Fresh Kills park, while not beautiful in name, is now beautiful nature. Once a 2,200 acre landfill site, accepting up to 29k tonnes of garbage daily since WWII, Fresh Kills is one of more than 500 former dumping sites across the USA that is turning landfill gas into fuel. At Fresh Kills, a gas collection system vacuums out the landfill gas and sends it to a purification plant, where it undergoes methane removal. The city then sells 1.5mill cubic feet of treated biogas to the local utility, which goes on to be used by local residents to cook, and heat their homes. It also is the largest park developed in NYC for more than a century, with the ecological restoration emphasising environmental sustainability and public concern for human impact. With extensive park lands, soccer fields, reclaimed wetlands and playgrounds, there’s a vision to develop kayaking spaces, large scale public art, facilitate birdwatching and bike riding. And that’s just the scratching the surface. Source: Bloomberg Green #Purpose23 #BloombergGreen #sustainability #NYC #NewYorkCity #landfill #USA #transformation #methane #regeneration

Is a trash Interceptor a solution to the mounting debris problem our #oceans are facing? Nearly 100 to 500 tons of trash reach the Upper Newport Bay via the San Diego Creek every year, depending on the amount of rainfall. And this is just one estuary of many. If you live in Southern California, you may have noticed the new construction in the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve in Newport Beach, CA. The new system, called the Newport Bay Trash Interceptor, is a large futuristic looking, solar powered trash collector that is estimated to gather nearly 80% of floating trash before it enters the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. While trash interceptors aren't an entirely new invention, it will be new to the Newport Bay Nature Preserve. The project is expected to be completed by December of 2024. Our oceans are facing immense threat from plastic & other man-made pollution. We have to find solutions to the mounting problem. Is the trash interceptor a part of that solution? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Source: https://lnkd.in/d6GJQkaN #TrashInterceptor #MarinePollution #PlasticPollution #SustainableSolutions #Sustainability

Friday Fun (yes, optimistic fun) With Water. One way to address scarcity is to tap into other "sources" such as stormwater runoff and non-revenue water that have historically been wasted. Kudos to 2NDNATURE and Pacific Institute for this article and underlying research. Keep your eyes on what we are building with #waterunited, a #catalyticcommunity in the #coloradoriverbasin. “Grab it before the water does - sounds simple enough. But the most practical solution is to pick up the trash before it enters the urban stormwater systems and waterways. This means that part of the trash solution involves getting communities engaged in reducing the amount of trash coming from our stormwater systems and ensuring that cities are accountable for doing their part.” https://lnkd.in/gHgU5Esq #stormwater #trashcapture #bmphood #civilengineering #bestmanagementproducts
