Today, the Pacific Institute is proud to launch an ambitious new strategic plan through 2026. As climate change radically intensifies our water challenges, the strategy focuses on one thing: accelerating the global transformation to water resilience. See the plan here: https://lnkd.in/gWXYnHXV We’re also thrilled to announce a $1 million gift from our Board Chair Sally Liu to expand our global impact through 2030 by jumpstarting a fundraising effort. Read the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gkd3Tban “The Pacific Institute is uniquely positioned to catalyze the transformation to water resilience,” said Liu. “I invite others to support this critical work at this critical time—by investing in the organization at the epicenter of water resilience solutions so deeply needed.” What’s new? First, we’re focused on four Impact Areas with outsized potential for accelerating action: • Water Equity • Water Efficiency & Reuse • Nature-Based Solutions • Corporate Water Stewardship Second, we are expanding efforts to accelerate implementation of water resilience solutions by companies, governments, frontline communities, and other levers of change. We’ll also increase our focus on unlocking systems-level opportunities to scale solutions by engaging with networks and informing and influencing policy. We’re so grateful to step into the next phase of the journey toward 2030 with hundreds of amazing collaborators, partners, philanthropists, and supporters. Hear from some of them, including Sanda Ojiambo of the United Nations Global Compact, John Matthews of Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA), Vedika Bhandarkar of Water.org, J. Carl Ganter of Circle of Blue, Tony Stayner, Sanjeev Chadha, Felicia Marcus & Todd Reeve of Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) in this video. The Pacific Institute creates and advances solutions to the world's most pressing water challenges.
About us
The Pacific Institute envisions a world in which society, the economy, and the environment have the water they need to thrive now and in the future. In pursuit of this vision, the Institute creates and advances solutions to the world’s most pressing water challenges, such as unsustainable water management and use; climate change; environmental degradation; food, fiber, and energy production for a growing population; and basic lack of access to fresh water and sanitation. Since 1987, the Pacific Institute has cut across traditional areas of study and actively collaborated with a diverse set of stakeholders, including policymakers, scientists, corporate leaders, international organizations such as the United Nations, advocacy groups, and local communities. This interdisciplinary and nonpartisan approach helps bring diverse interests together to forge effective real-world solutions.

"The objective of #NPWI is to make long-term improvements in basin health and resilience, addressing the underlying root cause of availability, quality and accessibility challenges." Klaudia Schachtschneider, Senior Researcher at the Pacific Institute. Net Positive Water Impact (#NPWI) is an initiative for companies to ensure their water contributions exceed their impacts in water-stressed regions. It addresses water availability, quality, and accessibility through site-specific impacts, company footprint, and basin-level collective action, aligning with other water stewardship approaches and supporting #SDG6. The Pacific Institute and The Center For Water Security and Cooperation released a new report this week, “Law and Policies for Equitable, Climate-Resilient Water and Sanitation Systems in the United States.” The research examines federal, Tribal, state, and local laws and policies governing centralized drinking water and wastewater systems, as well as decentralized onsite drinking water and sanitation systems. The report underscores that existing laws and policies do not recognize water and sanitation as human rights, threatening to widen the water access gap. Business leaders from across sectors came together to advance solutions to the state’s mounting water challenges at the California Water Resilience Initiative’s (CWRI) second annual forum. With an estimated 10 percent reduction in #WaterSupply projected by 2040, the forum highlighted the growing importance of #CorporateWaterStewardship as a critical driver for building #WaterResilience. The California Water Resilience Initiative is a private-sector initiative based in the United States that accelerates collective action between the private, public, and non-profit sectors to achieve a water-resilient future for California. The CWRI is a collaborative initiative aligned with the #CEOWaterMandate’s #WaterResilienceCoalition (WRC) to mobilize corporate water stewardship in 100 water-stressed basins around the world to address challenges of water scarcity, quality, and access. The initiative is managed by the Pacific Institute with Ecolab as Basin Champion and General Mills as Basin Leader. This collaborative will align the private sector with public sector ambition, policies and governance on water, catalyzing the innovation and action that is critical to addressing basin stress, and driving much needed investment to California water. #WaterStewardship #WaterResilience2030 #PacificInstitute2030Impact Jason Morrison | Cora Snyder | Todd Player | Emilio Tenuta | Wade Crowfoot | Lynn Mohrfeld | Sarah Brody | Eddie Corwin | Tia Fleming | Laura Weintraub | Robin Bass | Keali'i Bright | Julie Rentner- Harrison | Jay Watson | Robyn Grimm | Laura Meadors | Christina Babbitt, PhD, MBA
