📉Bilateral aid declined from 2022-23, driven by a drop in sovereign lending by 6.5%. 📈Bilateral grants, on the other hand, increased by 1.7%. The countries who provided the highest shares of bilateral official development assistance (#ODA) as sovereign loans were France (19%), Japan (57%) and Korea (32%). We have a slightly different view of this as outlined by Rob Floyd of African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET). The good news is that several African and global institutions are working together to try to solve the credit ratings conundrum, supporting improvements in existing global agencies and looking at how an African credit ratings agency could fill significant information gaps that global agencies miss, which put African countries at a disadvantage.
