What is it like to work for an ACMI airline? Is it worth it? 🤔 Over the last few weeks, many friends of mine , aviation colleagues and also aspiring Cabin Crew did ask me this questions. I started my career in Aviation in 2018 and at that time, I’ve never considered joining an ACMI company.  Nowadays, I can say that I’m really happy to fly for Avion Express ☺️ Let’s discuss a few things! 🌍 Lifestyle: In Avion Express, every month we get a different base ( Pilots and Cabin Crew). This allows you to travel and explore different countries. Isn't this amazing? 👩✈️ Career: There are a lot of career growth opportunities. If you decide that you are tired of flying, you can also choose a different path, as an Instructor for example. 🏠 What about home? After every rotation, we always go home for some days because rest is also important. As we are an ACMI company, winter is usually a quiet time for us (Cabin Crew) , so during the winter months (November-March) you can expect to spend longer periods at home. This doesn't apply to Pilots and it always depends of the operational requirements. Farnborough International Airshow: British Airways invests £21m to train 200 pilots ✈️🧑✈️ British Airways (BA) has announced a £21 million investment to help 200 prospective pilots start flying for commercial airlines without the usual £100,000 cost of training. The Speedbird Pilot Academy aims to attract the top flying talent while boosting social mobility and diversity within BA’s pilot community. The airline works with community groups to help encourage applicants from people who may have previously been put off from applying due to cost. Launched last year and open to applicants annually, the academy is already training 100 future British Airways pilots after receiving applications from more than 20,000 candidates. Funding was in place for an initial 100 slots on the 2025 programme, which has now been increased to 200. It takes two years to complete training and become a qualified first officer with BA, which currently employs around 4,000 pilots. BA made the announcement during an appearance at Farnborough International Airshow, where it’s exhibiting an A320neo aircraft complete with new interiors. How do I become a airline pilot. It’s a simple question , but with a complicated answer. I am posting today with the ambition of helping anyone with the desire to enter aviation as a pilot but not quite sure what to do about it. Firstly can I say I didn’t come from a traditional aviation background . I had no relatives or anyone to guide me in the right direction. I succeeded only by having a huge amount of luck,ambition and the most important quality , perseverance. I will say however , I have never seen the aviation industry in a better position for new aspiring pilots today, than at any stage of my career. Firstly , get a basic commercial licence . This can be achieved in a number of ways , Cadet coarses through existing airlines , organised training pathways through flying schools, universities and smaller affiliated general aviation companies. At the end of the day , they all achieve a similar outcome .An Australian commercial pilots licence . That’s when the hard stuff happens. As a newly licensed raw inexperienced pilot you have a number of pathways to take . Packing your bags and heading out bush to get a job flying small aircraft. Getting a instructor rating to possibly even work for the same flying school that’s has just helped you . Or depending on which company you did your comerical licence with , they might even have an affiliation with an airline big or small you may be able to progress to. The most important lesson here is, and I can’t stress this enough ,It may be very hard to get that first priceless job, it may even seem impossible . However I promise you ,it is achievable very achievable, and blind perseverance may be your strongest asset . Once you have your first job and it really doesn’t matter what it is , you will start accruing those very valuable things called hours. Then the industry will start to open up to you with limitless possibilities. Backyourself, never let other people say you can’t do it and above all never give up, and I promise there is an amazing aviation career waiting for you.

The single best piece of advice I can give anyone starting out on this Journey is as Steve says it. Blind perseverance is your greatest asset!

Air India, recognized as one of India’s premier airlines and the nation’s flag carrier, has announced the initiation of a comprehensive flight training program tailored for aspiring pilots, alongside training opportunities for cabin crew, ground staff, security personnel, and engineers. Nonetheless, the spotlight of this initiative is on the Fly High Pilot Cadet Program, specifically designed for pilot training. The program is aimed at Indian nationals aged between 18 and 30 years, possessing a proficient level of English, maintaining good health, and demonstrating strong academic performance, offering them a pathway to pilot training for Air India’s expanding fleet. Selected candidates will embark on their journey with ground school training in India, followed by flight training either at the AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Phoenix, Arizona, or at the L3Harris Group’s campus in Sanford, Florida, in the United States. Upon completion of their training in the US and acquisition of a Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL), the aspiring pilots will return to India to join Air India’s new Training Academy in Gurgaon. Here, they will undergo simulator training to meet specific type requirements before being qualified to pilot Air India’s commercial fleet. Air India commits to upholding high standards for its graduate pilots, as stated on its official website. With a fleet comprising 143 aircraft and an unprecedented order of 484 additional aircraft, according to ch-aviation, Air India’s ambitious expansion plan includes acquiring 70 Airbus A320neos, 140 A321neos, 20 A350-900s, and 20 A350-1000s, alongside adjustments made in December 2023. The Boeing fleet expansion includes 190 Boeing 737 MAX, 20 Boeing 787s, and ten new 777X airplanes. These modern aircraft, equipped with advanced cockpits featuring multi-function displays, flight computers, and head-up displays, necessitate a significant number of pilots, especially for long-haul flights which require multiple pilots. This initiative by Air India is poised to significantly influence the tourism sector from its inception to its culmination. By bolstering its pilot ranks with well-trained professionals, Air India is set to enhance its operational capacity, thereby increasing the frequency and destinations of its flights. This expansion is expected to boost accessibility to and from India, encouraging an uptick in international and domestic travel. The introduction of modern aircraft into the fleet will not only improve the travel experience but also position Air India as a competitive player on the global stage, contributing to the growth of the tourism industry in India.
