If you're interested how pedagogy becomes practice, if you're interested in how the same pedagogy can look extremely different in its application, depending on the context, life experiences, and relational positionality of those involved, you might like my blog. Stay tuned for so so many upcoming posts through time :). www.jesswoodsrece.com

Practice indexicals are the powerful symptoms of geography. More recently, multiple groups are trying to glide and gloss over the gremlins of the social gradient in an over-appeal to virtue revival as team changing and game changing; forms of relational depth solidarity that largely muzzle decent explanations and tend to purify energy rising in domesticated science. These mood sentiments while appearing positive and affirmative in academia, shore up resonance versions of normative attitudes that simply do not tackle the beyond the microscope of individuals and families, and, in that sense, a 'hermeneutics of suspicion' ought to be applied in the ways our traditional ways foreclose multi-pronged analyses of largely capitalist functional rationality. 'To have to exercise power means to be able - in different degrees - to influence, use, determine, occupy or even seal off the space of reasons for others' (Rainer Forst 2017, p. 42). There is much at stake in the educative spheres and the gig academy and how it shapes semblance horizons of possibility, within state recognition and in international politics and whose interests are being served much more than others.

Structured literacy for all!

She epitomized what it meant to be an educator who always challenged the status quo of instructional practices. She never shied away from asking the tough questions, regardless of who was in the room. I remember observing her for her final evaluation before she went on maternity leave years ago. She sang the cutest transition song, and in that moment, I fell in friend-love with this lovely Latina. Her dedication to improving student outcomes was unparalleled, but often, the chaos and directives of the system kept her from truly shining as the queen she is. Fast forward (imagine the sound effect in your head). One day, we were deep in conversation about literacy—who knows what exactly—and I mentioned the Lucy Project. I had recently learned about the incredible work they do and suggested she sign up for their program. To make a long story short, she did! Now, she’s able to do what’s best for students, using instructionally sound, evidence-based literacy practices in an environment that lets her sit in her greatness. Her post makes my heart smile. 💖 #untilallkidscanread Sandra Bermudez

Children's behavior can lead to feelings of love and joy, and also to frustration, incompetence, and despair. In this recent workshop held to students at Atlantic International University, I provided tips for using Kathryn J. Kvols' Montessori-aligned strategies to help redirect children's behavior in peaceful, respectful ways that help children assume responsibility and develop intrinsic motivation, while also fostering cooperative, close relationships with others, including their parents and caregivers.
