How to preserve mushrooms spawn The picture is a pic of white button mushrooms spawn that we used and remained then put back in refrigeration. Most farmers asks us always, Mushrooms Kenya how do I need to preserve the spawn? And the answer is pretty simple, there are different types of spawns having different preservation methods. For example, button mushrooms spawn which is one of the popular type of mushrooms in Kenya is very delicate and needs to be refrigerated under 4 degrees Celsius while oyster mushrooms, the second most popular type can be kept under room temperatures without preservation. But, the preservation goes beyond that, for example you cannot just expose the spawn to excess heat and expect it to work. Have you seen masses of butterflies perching on muddy ground? Mud sipping or mud puddling is a behaviour that allows butterflies to fulfill their mineral nutritional requirement. The image shows Prosotas nora (Common line blue) mud sipping by a muddy roadside puddle in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. This behaviour is mostly observed during the months of December and January for this particular location and species, for some unknown reason.
