This is a great start. Lets hope it comes to fruition and we can build on it. “Quietly, though, behind the scenes, state regulators have worked for more than a decade with Pattern Energy, a private company, to create the “Southern Spirit Transmission.” The goal is a 400-mile transmission line from the Texas/Louisiana border, through Louisiana and into Mississippi to connect with grids in the southeastern United States. Power could flow into or out of Texas, depending on the need. Federal regulators would have no jurisdiction over the project because of the way it’s set up. Also, the electricity flow would be direct current, not the usual alternating current. In a local angle, Garland Power & Light is part of the plan because the lines would connect to Texas in a partnership with Garland. Garland announced its participation back in 2011. The utility would operate a substation on the Texas border and 30 miles of transmission lines leading to it. Your cost? Consumers would not – repeat, not – pay for this $2.6 billion project. A projected schedule shows construction could start in 2026 and end by 2029. Right-of-way work is being done now.” https://lnkd.in/gWhGfRus

T&D... the gift that keeps on giving. This is why I love being a part of this incredible industry - here's the latest from the 8th most populated state 👇 Georgia is building for the future with a massive $10 billion investment into its energy grid. This effort isn’t just about keeping the lights on—it's driving down power outages by 15% and boosting reliability by 50% for some customers. With Georgia becoming the eighth most populous state, these upgrades are essential. Georgia Power Company has been making significant upgrades to the state's power grid, including installing smart technology, rebuilding transmission lines, and relocating hundreds of miles of power lines underground. These efforts have strengthened the grid, improved reliability, and ensured safe power delivery across the state. Georgia’s 20,000-mile integrated transmission system, supported by a diverse mix of energy sources, maintained a top-tier reliability score with an outage rate of just 1.49% in 2023. Renewable energy and battery storage are also being expanded to ensure long-term reliability. Georgia Power is constructing 3,000 miles of new power lines as part of a $10 billion grid upgrade to support the state's rapid growth Georgia's infrastructure upgrades aren’t just about power—they’re about people. As the state grows, so does the job market. Spending my entire Recruitment Career in T&D Construction, Metric Search has extremely close relationships with Utility Contractors who are a part of this great growth. ICYMI and didn’t see the news…check out our partnership with National Grid on a macroeconomic analysis for their upcoming transmission upgrade project across upstate New York! The project and West Monroe’s macroeconomic analysis were featured in T&D World. At West Monroe, we're doubling down on our commitment to helping utilities strengthen their transmission resilience, especially as extreme weather events are becoming increasingly pervasive. With hurricanes and wildfires causing more severe damage to electrical infrastructure, it's crucial for electric utilities and transmission companies to be proactive in improving their resilience. By drawing lessons from past incidents, investing in infrastructure and technology, and collaborating closely with stakeholders, the industry can better tackle the challenges of a changing climate and an increasingly unpredictable environment – and we’re here to help! Message me to hear about how we're revolutionizing transmission resilience or click here to learn more about what we do in this space: https://ter.li/yr1od7

Exciting to learn how Platte River Power Authority is developing projects to make transmission lines safer and more resilient. Here's to fewer outages and greater safety for all. #transmissionline #safety #resilience #projectdevelopment
Starting February 27, Western Area Power Administration is launching a 3-phase project to enhance Estes Park transmission lines' resilience. After a power outage in Oct. 2023 due to galloping lines during bad weather, air flow spoilers will be installed to reduce swaying. No power outages are expected in Estes Park as a result of this project. Phase one aims to be completed by March 7. Note: While this project was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 22, it was rescheduled under advisement from WAPA. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dp3nN6yR
