Reflecting on the first half of 2024! What has happened so far? The past months have been incredibly full of rewarding experiences for me, filled with international events, innovative projects, network expansion, and new partnerships. Here are my personal highlights: 📅 Event Highlights: > Americas Market Conference, Mexico City: Discussed market trends and business opportunities. > A++ Presidents Meeting, Montréal: Met with sales leaders and A++ counterparts to plan future projects as well as strengthened alliances with Air Canada and United Airlines. > International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting, Dubai: Provides a focus for emerging industry issues, current challenges and opportunities. 🚀 New Lufthansa Group (LHG) Travel Experience: Lufthansa Allegris: The inaugural flight took off in May 2024, showcasing the reinvention of the Lufthansa seating options and advanced comfort features on the Airbus A350, significantly enhancing the in-flight experience and overall satisfaction. 🌐 Network expansion: New intercontinental routes: Over 310 destinations, 120 countries, including significant new additions to LHG airlines’ 2024 intercontinental network. BIG shout out to Eurowings staff, who made my journey smooth! I compared this to a flight I had with a different airline at the beginning of the week! 3 Things that made my Flight Smooth 1 & 2) Attentiveness to detail & Proactivity - the flight staff remembered me and came back to ask something I was unsure of before (a small detail about how I like my coffee). )! It was a little gesture that went a thousand miles! It made me feel seen and genuinely cared for as a passenger! 3)   Professionality – they treated their economy passengers with the same measure of respect as those in business class Earlier in the week, I witnessed another airline hostess refuse to give another passenger on my row a tissue that she had asked for. That passenger made a complaint to her manager and caused a scene. Whilst I’m not going to name and shame that other airline, I have to state how impressed I am from the proficiency of the staff Eurowings. An Area for Improvement: While the overall experience was excellent, one thing I noticed—both with Eurowings and in the industry more broadly—is the need for improved English pronunciation among staff. Clear communication is essential, especially in high-stress situations or for non-native speakers. Pronunciation training can enhance clarity and avoid misunderstandings, contributing to even better service. Investing in this will not only benefit passengers but also empower airline staff to communicate more effectively. Cathay Pacific's Johannesburg roadshow and Emirates' new hiring criteria are clear signs of rising demand for talented pilots. This presents incredible opportunities for young pilots. While I applaud these developments, I also wonder: what about the potential for talent drain from Africa? With global aviation booming, how can we ensure a steady supply of pilots to fuel our own industry's growth? Should African airlines invest more heavily in pilot training programs? Are there creative solutions to attract and retain top talent within the continent? British Airways to double Chinese cabin crew numbers as flights to China increase  British Airways has announced it plans to double the number of Chinese cabin crew it employs specifically for flights between the United Kingdom and China. The ramping up in recruitment follows a strong rebound for premium leisure travel between the two countries since pandemic-linked travel restrictions were lifted in 2023.  The airline currently has 50 China-based cabin crew on its books and intends to add a further 50 local-language staff. The new additions will be equally split between the carrier’s crew bases in Shanghai (PVG) and Beijing PEK).  British Airways aims to have the recruitment drive completed by the start of festivities linked to the Chinese Lunar New Year in mid-February 2024. With the new recruits fully onboarded, China will become British Airways’ second-largest international cabin crew base after India, according to a company spokesperson.
