Calling all businesses: make your voice heard for a net zero future 🗣️ By completing The UK Net Zero Business Census, you will contribute to an important analysis of the country's progress towards achieving net zero. And with the General Election scheduled for 4th July, this Census provides a timely opportunity to inform the government of business priorities, and the support and resources required to accelerate the transition to net zero. Three reasons to participate in the UK’s Net Zero Census: 1. Inform policy-making 2. Help accelerate the transition to net zero 3. 💬 Participate in the Net Zero Business Census Businesses are being urged to participate in a new census aimed at gauging progress towards the UK’s net zero goals. Led by the UK Business Climate Hub in partnership with Planet Mark, the census seeks to identify barriers to net zero and is supported by major organisations like the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and Institute of Directors (IoD). 🌍 It is hoped that the results will help create a richer dataset for informed decision-making as we transition to a low carbon economy. I am thrilled to announce the launch of the UK Net Zero Business Census, a ground-breaking research survey to determine the number of businesses in the UK with net zero targets.   This initiative, delivered by the UK Business Climate Hub in partnership with Planet Mark, aims to be the largest of its kind, setting a definitive benchmark for the private sector's role in achieving the UK's ambitious 2050 net zero target.   Together with over 40 partners, we embark on a journey to engage as many businesses as possible across the UK - regardless of size, industry or sustainability credentials, unravelling the depth of their commitments and actions in driving positive change for society, business and nature. This is about increased transparency, accountability and shared responsibility on the journey to net zero.   The urgency to support the UK's transition to net zero has never been clearer. This research will provide crucial insights, from the prevalence of net zero targets among businesses to the concrete steps taken to reduce carbon footprints.    I am immensely optimistic that the forthcoming report will shed light on the shared experiences, challenges and successes of businesses on a net zero pathway, guiding us toward the necessary actions to support them. We can and must inspire others to join the race to zero, catalysing a wave of transformative change across industries and sectors.   Together, let's move towards a more sustainable future, where innovation, collaboration and unwavering commitment propel us closer to the national 2050 net zero target.

After attending the #innovationzero for the past couple of days I'm full of ideas and actions to take. Some of my key take-aways include: 🌍 oceans can store 28 times more carbon than land and atmosphere combined providing enormous opportunities to be explored 🌏 we need to take circularity to a next level and ensure we minimise and eventually completely stop using virgin materials and Rubbish Ideas and Excess Materials Exchange are already doing some great work in that area. One of the key arguments that really stuck with me made by Connor Bryant was that, even though recycled materials are currently more expensive than virgin materials, making such comparison is completely unfair, because we need to account for the fact that over the past decades massive investments went into extraction infrastructure rather than recycling infrastructure 🌍 Great perspectives form National Grid on how grid will have to accommodate the changing demands, enable more flexibility by tapping into domestic flexibility, maximise its capacity and be more functional to enable the energy transition 🌎 it was encouraging to learn that the finance industry, even though it may still not be where it should, it is recognising its key role in making finances available not only for innovations but also nature restoration projects. Pensions and insurances were highlighted by multiple people as a key areas where individuals and organisations can take to put pressure on the financial organisations to transfer their funds into more sustainable projects. 🌎 As we all know really well, collaboration will be key to enable all of this! 🌏 Last but not least, super exciting announcement from Planet Mark - we've launched a Net Zero Business Census to set a baseline of where all UK businesses are at the moment and to measure the progress on annual basis.

Really excited to share that the UK Net Zero Business Census is now live! Like some many things (a route to net zero being one of them), we can do more if we understand the data and define a baseline.
