🌍 Exciting news in the renewable energy sector! Canadian firm Noventa Energy has expanded its footprint by acquiring three Scottish Water wastewater plants in Glasgow, Stirling, and Campbeltown. This marks a significant step in their European operations, enabled by backing from Ancala, an infrastructure manager. These pioneering UK plants will soon enjoy upgrades using Noventa's cutting-edge technology, boosting heat generation capacity and reducing emissions. As someone who's been in recruitment for over a decade, I often see how vital these collaborations are in fostering innovation and sustainable solutions. Scottish Water Horizons' decision to release capital through this sale will further investment in renewable technologies. With the potential to generate 33GWh of heat and 15GWh of power annually, these facilities will offer substantial environmental benefits, equating to heating 5,000 homes and powering 1,000. This acquisition complements Noventa's ambitions to drive the energy transition and decarbonisation projects. It's inspiring to see such strides towards a sustainable future while providing cost-effective heating solutions. Scottish Water Horizons has successfully sold three heat-from-wastewater assets to Noventa, a renewable energy firm backed by Ancala. These assets, located in Glasgow, Stirling, and Campbeltown, mark a major step forward in the UK's drive to harness renewable energy. The acquired assets are already making a tangible impact by supplying heat to Stirling Council and Clyde Gateway's district heat networks, as well as providing power to leisure centres and wastewater treatment plants. Rondo Energy has secured €75M in funding through the EU-Catalyst partnership, a joint initiative by the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Commission, and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst. This marks a significant milestone in their journey from lab to market. The funding, consisting of grants and venture debt, will enable Rondo to expand its European presence and deploy first-of-a-kind utility-scale long-duration energy storage units with power-to-heat technology. This technology turns intermittent renewable electricity into continuous, high-temperature heat and power, crucial for decarbonising food, clean fuels, and chemical production. Rondo’s journey to large-scale deployment is highlighted by three groundbreaking industrial decarbonisation projects in Europe: - Covestro in Northern Germany: Delivering drop-in decarbonisation for Covestro’s Chemical Production - GreenLab in Denmark: Heat battery replaces fossil fuels in GreenLab’s green industrial park - Food & Beverage Sector: Upcoming solar-powered decarbonisation project. Rondo’s Heat Batteries (RHBs) will deliver low-cost, high-pressure, zero-carbon steam and power as a service, supporting more climate-friendly production across Europe.
