  • Savor, a Breakthrough Energy Ventures portfolio company, just launched a butter alternative made using methane through gas fermentation. The result delivers the same taste, texture, and nutrition as conventional butter while avoiding the environmental impact of livestock and land-intensive crops. Savor is already working with select restaurants that are testing its butter in a variety of dishes. This early commercial traction shows how quickly this technology can scale to support a more resilient, low-emission food system. Read more from Fast Company: https://lnkd.in/eFuPiT6p

Today, we're so happy to showcase a major milestone from an incredible industry partner and low carbon concrete pioneer. Ozinga has produced more than ONE MILLION TRUCKLOADS of concrete made with CarbonCure!! Ozinga, a fifth-generation, family-owned leader in concrete and building materials, was established in 1928 in Evergreen Park, Illinois. It began as a modest coal and coke yard and has flourished into a premier supplier of concrete, bulk materials and construction solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential projects across the Midwest and South Florida. Committed to service, learning, and entrepreneurship, Ozinga is built on a foundation of innovation, integrity and a deep commitment to serving its communities—all while keeping its iconic red-and-white striped mixer trucks rolling strong. What distinguishes Ozinga is its relentless pursuit of excellence and sustainability in concrete manufacturing. It has not only adopted a portfolio of innovative tools and strategies to produce its own greener concrete products, Ozinga is also actively engaging and educating industry leaders and peers, designers, builders and many other stakeholders on opportunities for new technologies, new mix designs and new methods for enhancing environmental stewardship. Since integrating our technologies in 2017, Ozinga has produced an impressive 1,023,976 truckloads using CarbonCure, delivering 8,161,000 cubic yards of carbon mineralized concrete. This has enabled more than 78,000 metric tons of CarbonCure carbon savings to date. That’s equivalent to removing about 18,000 gas-powered cars from the road for a year or the carbon sequestration capacity of about 1.3 million tree seedlings grown for a decade. Join us in saluting Team Ozinga for demonstrating such strong leadership, driving new innovation, and constantly expanding opportunities for sustainability—one truckload at a time! #Concrete #LowCarbonConcrete #CarbonCure #Ozinga

  • Congratulations to BE Fellows alum, Verne for demonstrating alongside Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory a new highly efficient hydrogen densification pathway. This is a major step toward cutting distribution costs and unlocking hydrogen's potential for wider adoption. Learn more below.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Verne demonstrate highly efficient hydrogen densification pathway The demonstration validated that it is possible to reach cryo-compressed hydrogen conditions with liquid hydrogen-like density directly from a source of gaseous hydrogen — reducing the required energy input by 50% compared to hydrogen liquefaction. Hydrogen adoption has been hindered by the limitations of existing forms of hydrogen: compressed gaseous hydrogen is cheap to produce but low in density, while liquid hydrogen is high in density but expensive to densify. “Providing a low-cost way to reach high densities will bring down the cost of delivering and using hydrogen, opening up a host of applications for hydrogen across some of the most demanding sectors of the economy from construction to ports to warehouses,” - Ted McKlveen, co-founder & CEO of Verne. As the world shifts and industries transform, the World’s Most Innovative Companies aren't just keeping up—they're setting the pace. Waymo, this year’s No. 1 company, has taken robotaxis from science fiction to reality. Athletic Brewing Co. is popularizing NA beer, while Nuuly is turning a profit on clothing rentals. DeepSeek AI is engineering new ways to build state-of-the-art AI models—and sharing its approach with others. And even in an era defined by automation, some of the smartest companies are turning unpredictability into an asset, from Duolingo and its chaotic owl mascot to Kendrick Lamar’s creative agency pgLang, and heavy-metal water brand Liquid Death. Other companies have met the moment and redefined it. Watch Duty helped Angelenos navigate their city’s devastating fires. Chainalysis brought needed transparency to the crypto industry. And Bluesky Social freed social media, at last, from corporate control. With the pace of change accelerating, businesses have to prepare for both the challenges of today and ones they’ve yet to identify. It’s a daunting task. But the process of selecting all 609 Most Innovative Companies across 58 categories gave us a glimpse into the future. • Farmers face growing uncertainty from drought, extreme heat, and shifting weather patterns. Decibel Bio, a Breakthrough Energy Ventures portfolio company, is taking a new approach to making crops more resilient without altering their DNA. Using epigenetic treatments, Decibel Bio fine-tunes how plants express certain traits, allowing farmers to adapt in real time. A spray mid-season can help crops withstand stress, rather than relying solely on seed selection months in advance. Future applications could reduce fertilizer use, enhance photosynthesis, and increase protein content for plant-based foods. With commercial deployment possible as early as next year, Decibel Bio is providing farmers with a new tool to grow stronger, more adaptable crops. Founder & CEO of TS Conductor: award-winning, high-performance conductors made in America to modernize the world’s power grids.

We are excited to announce TS Conductor’s second US manufacturing facility, which will begin production later this year! The new facility, located in Jasper County, South Carolina, will be a force multiplier for expanding transmission capacity and modernizing the grid in the US and beyond. Strategically located near the Port of Savannah, we will be more equipped than ever to deliver our advanced conductors to utilities and grids around the world, in addition to strengthening our supply chain here in the US. With rapid increases in electricity demand now and well into the future, it couldn’t be a better time to expand manufacturing of our advanced conductors, capable of delivering 2-3x the capacity of ACSR conductors. We are incredibly grateful to our investors, who have helped make this expansion possible: Blue Earth Capital AG, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Energy & Environment Investment, Edison International, Gates Frontier, National Grid Partners, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, Quanta Services, Inc., and Wellington Management. I’d also like to thank the South Carolina Governor's Office, Henry McMaster, who joined us at today’s celebratory announcement event and who has welcomed our business into the state with open arms. Your support means so much to the TS team. Finally, I’d like to thank Craig Dannegger and the rest of the team at Clarius Partners, LLC, who have helped us find a location to plant roots in South Carolina. This expansion will create hundreds of new jobs in and around Jasper County, and we look forward to working with the SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance and the Hardeeville Career Advancement & Workforce Training Program to make investments in local workforce development to support these advanced manufacturing jobs. • Graphitic Energy, a Breakthrough Energy Ventures portfolio company, is advancing cost-competitive, low-emission hydrogen production with two major milestones: commissioning its first pilot plant in San Antonio, TX, and securing a $15 million Series A extension, bringing total investment to $65 million. By combining hydrogen production with critical mineral recovery, Graphitic Energy is unlocking new commercial opportunities while drastically reducing emissions. 🔹 Hydrogen + Graphite Production – The plant extracts hydrogen from natural gas while producing solid graphite, a key industrial material used in lubricants and reactors. 🔹 Anticipated 90% CO₂ Emissions Reduction – The process avoids the carbon emissions of traditional hydrogen production without requiring sequestration. 🔹 Scalable & Independent of Federal Subsidies – This approach is already profitable at today’s market prices, making it a viable alternative to conventional methods. With plans for a 100,000-ton commercial facility by 2027, Graphitic Energy is demonstrating that clean hydrogen and critical mineral production can scale efficiently and economically.
