Did you know? Researchers found that more than three-quarters of children who've engaged in active mobility continue to do so two to four years later. On the other hand, only a small number of children started being active if they hadn't been before. Please take this short survey that will help Cycling Citizens MK find out more about who cycles in Milton Keynes. https://lnkd.in/e_m7-RRe
Initial research by Cycling Citizens MK suggests only 23% of cycle journeys in Milton Keynes are by women. Volunteer researchers simply counted cyclists using redways in the last 10 days of January and found 131 male and 32 female. Recent UK-wide research by Lime shows only 19% of female cyclists feel sale riding alone at night and 91% face barriers to cycling. “It’s a justice issue,” says Jane Whild of Voices of Women in MK. “Women’s equal access to cycling must be designed into City plans. To make progress, we must understand the barriers.” In partnership with Milton Keynes City Council, Jane has created a 3-minute online survey to do this, https://lnkd.in/eWST2cZG, and wants at least 1,000 MK residents, female and male, to complete it. Please do.

Spread the word and join the movement, because cycling is neither a luxury nor a hobby. As a parent, one of the fundamental skills I feel responsible for teaching my daughter is cycling. It's not just about the physical benefits, but more so about fostering independence, freedom, and responsibility skills. However, achieving this goal becomes challenging in many cities, leading to a crucial question: for whom do we design our cities? From my perspective, the answer is clear. By prioritizing these 'bicycle heroes', we are prioritizing the creation of cities that cater to the needs of ALL!
Children call for cycling! The International #ChildrensCyclingManifesto, created by BYCS, is launching today. The power of one bike…Take a minute to listen to Antony Mugwanja describe how one bike from Inclusive Cycling International’s U.S. Embassy funded project has transformed his life and empowered him to inspire other people with disabilities. I can’t find better words than his to explain how our work to expand opportunities for people to participate in cycling is about more than just sports and contributes to a more accessible and inclusive world. https://lnkd.in/g7Uy8yaX

With rising obesity, congestion and pollution, active and micro-transport has to be a big part of the solution. Safety is a key factor for most people. #activetransport #cyclinginfrastructure
The Department for Transport's latest figures show that road casualties have barely decreased over the past decade, with cyclist and pedestrian fatalities flatlining. In 2023, 87 cyclists lost their lives, and while total cyclist casualties were down 4% from 2022, the overall pace of progress is too slow. We're calling for a joined-up approach on cycling infrastructure to create safer cycle networks that connect villages, towns and cities. Only with proper investment and planning can we save lives and make cycling and walking safer for all 🚶♂️🚴♂️. Cycling on rural roads is not as niche as one might think - our questionnaire representative of the Swedish adult population shows that one third of the respondents cycle on rural roads, and many more would like to if the traffic environment felt safer and practical barriers were removed.
