From the desk of Dr. Gerilyn Davis: Happy Tuesday to you! I’m hoping that you are having a splendid day. As Winter has arrived here in Colorado with early snow, I always think of the excitement I get when I think of snow. People ask me, what do I love about Colorado? I love the weather. The sun is always shining. You can get snow one day and 56-degree weather the next day. I’m able to run comfortably all year long, which I love. Yet, I love mostly the Winter. As I continue to share the joy of inclusion, I often think about what impedes people from engaging in snow activities, whether it is skiing, tubing, or even snowshoeing, and what I have come across most is that people want to be safe. It’s the reason why I am thrilled to be on this panel discussing winter safety from an inclusive lens with the Brigham and Women's Hospital. I was injured a few years back, and it was the best thing that happened to me. I believe everything is an opportunity. I recognized at that moment that I could emphasize winter safety in my narrative. As someone who believes in living life to the fullest, I realized that also entails living a pretty long life. Delegates on our last Remote Medical Responder: A Wilderness First Responder course were faced with a multi casualty scenario in a debris filled ice field, with both adult and paediatric casualties, assisted by avalanche transceivers. Avalanche is covered in both our health care professional and non health care professional core med courses, led by experts. The Global Pet Expo is going on and although we are not exhibiting or attending this year, I still like to look at the daily show magazine (available online) to see what exciting things are in the field! Today, there is a great article about "Delegation: Why We Should but Why We Don't." It is not a pet specific article so I wanted to share because everyone seems to have busy, hectic lives so if we can apply this concept to our lives (both at work and home) it might relieve a little stress! The article says, "Delegation is a learned and applied skill." I would agree, but I also feel my son, at age 11, seems to have mastered it - HA! My husband tells him, "You don't understand, we don't work for you!" I hope you can take away something from this article to minimize stress in your job or household. #delegate
