The name Treehouse derives from the concept’s key feature: a double-height common area located four stories above ground level; a new typology to affordable senior living that transforms the stereotypes associated with typical retirement homes. Accessible by elevators, but intended primarily by a set of open stairs, this mid building two storey community place offers a constant connection to the outside world though aerial views and tree canopy sightlines, providing residents with an ongoing relationship with the changing seasons, weather patterns and time of day.   Typically, multi-unit housing locates common areas, such as dining rooms and shared kitchens, on the ground level, with residential units above. Several benefits emerge when these gathering spaces are placed higher up, where windows offer greater visual prospect and sensory stimulation, derived from aerial views, is especially important for those who may have mobility issues and can’t easily venture outdoors. Interested in learning how to create an extra room in a HMO? Have a look at the reel. This was a building which needed some creative thinking to find a way to make the fourth bedroom. Originally the bathroom was on the ground floor behind the kitchen and the third bedroom upstairs was less than 6.52sqm. So we moved the bathroom upstairs into the small third bedroom and changed the downstairs bathroom into a bedroom. To create this bedroom, we knocked through into an outside shed and fully insulated the room. Not only creating the additional bedroom, it also increased the the useable floor space in the house. A recent survey by Houzz, 'UK Kitchen Trends 2024' revealed that 46% of kitchen projects in the UK are embracing the outdoors, with 39% of homeowners opting for double doors or a row of doors when creating that outdoor connection to their kitchen. The original layout provided one Jack-Jill en-suite and one house bathroom for 6 tenants, less than ideal kitchen and living room. There was lot of wasted space in the ground floor due to two hallways leading to two bedrooms 😩 We moved the living room and kitchen up a floor from the basement, swapping over the bedrooms 🤔 which allowed us to create 2 x en-suite bedrooms. Then a stunning spacious kitchen & living room to the ground floor with access out to the front and rear gardens. 😻 The house now has 4 en-suite bedrooms, with two sharing a jack-Jill. It is much better laid out, finished, oh and we also sorted out the front and rear gardens, insulated the roof, added constant ventilation to the lower ground, full rewire and then furnished it….plus much much more.
